Roberts outfitting in Newfoundland let’s here some reviews

Anyone have any reviews with them? What size moose to expect, food any good? Worth the time? Thanks I’m advance

I went with them last year. Food was great, camp was good. I believe they are building a new cabin at the camp I was at (Four Ponds). Would be very cramped with camp full(6). We had pretty bad weather for most of our week but ended up killing our moose.

I wouldn't go there expecting a big moose but you should have an opportunity at a bull. From our experience and our guides talking it seemed like the last week of September/ first of October is when you want to go. Any later rut is winding down and you are hunting dead moose.

Our moose were 28" and 39". The 28" seemed like the average size judging by the stories on the cabin walls.

The hunting methods were go on top of a lookout and call with an electronic caller all day. You hunt a different lookout each day but if camp is full you are hunting the same spots over and over all season. All spots were accessible by a short atv ride to a lake with a boat. There were local hunters driving the power line but were strictly road hunting.

Very beautiful terrain, damn near mountainous. If you have any other questions fire away.

Did you drive right to the camps? How much did it cost to get your moose processed? Or can we process it ourselves? Did you do alot of walking? Can we fish while we are at camp? New guy here, lurker for awhile but I felt compelled to offer honest advise on Roberts. 6 of us in camp all of us were successful. Nothing we shot was big, our group did take 2 cows and 4 bulls. We hunted 4 ponds also. You will drive to camp and leave your vehicle about 1/2 a mile from camp on the powerline road, from there you will take a SxS back to the lodge. The style of hunting is to drive by boat or SxS to established locations that they hunt on a daily basis, sometimes hunting over gutpiles from previous hunts. All our shots were under 250 yards but there were places that we could have shot well over 500. I believe the cost of butchering was around $500, if you can I HIGHLY recommend you butcher yourself. Fishing season will be closed while you are there. Not sure what type of shape you are in but I would advise you that the road gets hunted VERY hard with lots of competition by locals and get in as deep as you can. I was fortunate enough to have the best guide in camp, he has been there the longest his name was Winston. Absolute great gentleman and the other guide that I would recommend is Calvin. I wanted a tough hunt and wanted to work hard for an animal and we got it done on the 4th day. Not sure what your expectations are but I wouldn't pass on an animal if given a choice.

Well we have returned from our "hunt" at 4 ponds with Roberts Outfitting. The hunt was basically a joke. My guide did not want to hunt at all. Most days he told me it wasn't even worth going and I should have chosen a different outfitter.
The hunt was going to the same 4 spots repeatedly and call all day. The area is over hunted by locals and the outfitter themselves. My guide would set us up looking downwind trying to call the moose upwind. He would burn garbage and smoke cigarettes while we were on stand. I honestly thought at any moment someone would come out with a camera and tell me I was being punked. My guide told me he hadn't seen a moose in 20 days and not to expect much. Definitely overpriced for not seeing anything. I'm a hunter and understand that you don't always have success but the area had no moose sign we should have been relocated to a better spot.
Roberts other camps had good success. Stay far away from 4 ponds. The food was good and that's about it.

My experience at Roberts Outfitting was all positive . I saw a lot of Moose , my guide called a couple right to us . He had a nice one coming but it met another bull with a cow so the nice bull took the cow and headed back the other way . I shot a small 8 point .
But everyone in my camp got a shot at moose and when the one guy that had not gotten one yet on the last night of the last day , the owner and another guide tried to help find him a active moose .
Otto and Annie were great , the camp ,was old but okay . All the guides were personable and easy going .

It's funny how different experiences are from camp to camp. My experience was all negative from my guide to the outfitter with providing support to our camp to find moose. They made zero effort to help.

Well this is just my perspective , but from your post you come across as someone that finds a problem .
My guide smoked , brewed coffee with his Kelly Kettle and sometimes we hunted downwind , when we were high enough .
One day I saw nothing , but the other days we saw multiple Moose .
I only had a bull tag . Cows were everywhere , if anybody goes in the future , buy the either sex tag , same price .

Finds a problem? I'm just giving honest truthful experience for other readers who maybe looking for a hunt and not waste $6500. There's plenty of other outfitters and I gave credit to Roberts other camps that did well. 4 ponds is not a good spot. I had an either sex tag and would have been more than happy to shoot a cow. We had 5 people in camp plus 3 guides and we only saw 4 moose all week! Between everyone.

From my experience the guide you get makes a big difference. I hunted the same camp and had an ok guide. My partner had a great guide and in a previous hunt a terrible guide. We lucked out and weren't in a full camp so the spots stayed relatively fresh. With a full camp you are hunting where someone else did the day before. It would be an epic spot to diy hunt.

Yes my friend had a great guide Winston. If I were able to have legally hunted without a guide. I absolutely would have. The area is easy to get around and access is easy with the hydro line road. I wanted to walk a couple miles off the road to hunt fresh spots because of the all the local hunting pressure. But my guide Fred didn't want to basically leave site of the road or camp. Most spots we hunted I could hear the camp generator or see the side by side. He didn't want to put in the effort.
The camp cook is now Lisa. She is relation to Otto.
