I am doing a DIY rifle hunt on a private ranch in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico in the middle of November.

On the same ranch 4 years ago I took a nice 180+” buck and a couple others guys took comparable deer. Two years ago we went and nobody saw any nice bucks.

Any thoughts on how this year might go given range conditions? This is the latest this hunt has ever taken place in recent history so we are hoping for cold weather and maybe the beginning of rut activity to begin.

The later, the better. I got a really good buck last year a little after Christmas. It's been very, very dry this year. Just when you think it's never going to rain, our ranch got tons of rain yesterday. The tanks that were all dry are now filled.

We hunt NOV 10-17 so not as late as I wish but almost a week later than this hunt is historically.

I was afraid it was going to be dry. Hopefully the rains hit the area I am hunting and it keeps raining up to November.

It has been raining quite a bit up that way for the past week, hopefully in time for them to put on some bone, it was brutally hot and dry for over a month prior to that!
