I’ve finally convinced myself to start lapping my rings. That being said, is there any particular brand of lapping bar that is better than others? Is there certain brands to avoid? Or does it not matter?

I made my own from a 1" steel pin. Drilled and tapped the end for a handle and use valve grind compound from local auto store. I have about $10 into it, been using it for year

Another confirmation for the Wheeler kit. I eventually stopped lapping my rings in favor of bedding them instead and I still use the Wheeler bar for that so I don’t have to put release agent on my scopes.

I have the wheelers, 1 inch, 30mm and 34mm. You're not just getting the lap, you get the alignment points which is the correct way to align stuff... not just tightening rings onto the lap and potentially inducing stress and deflection.

Would love to hear what event convinced you. Have not done this in more than 10 years. And I am actually convinced that lapping may do more harm than good. I was using wheeler kit though.
