So after asking about the new mountain rifle build I went a fondled a Cooper backcountry today. The only problem is that it was in a 338 win, He had one other one there that was a 340 Weatherby. I’m not sure that I would want to buy one in those calibers. Anyone have experience with a rifle that light in those calibers ?

Thought process is Not having to order one and the six-month wait time

My choice would be 7 rem mag or 300 Win. Cove creek has the 7 currently in stock.

I'm still stuck on .300.

There are several dealers that have them in stock. I love a good "hunt" for a new rifle!!!!!

Because it will kill anything in North America with very little recoil. It would be my first choice for a rifle as light as the M92. If I could only have one rifle it would be a 30cal magnum slightly heavier. I would shoot a 180 Berger 7 or 215 30.

I say pull the trigger on the 338 win mag. I got a buddy that put a brake on an x bolt 338 win mag and he didn't have any trouble shooting it. I got a cooper 338 06 and I wish I had a 338 win mag now.

Sportsmans now carries the Cooper Backcountry. You can check online if they're in stock at your nearest store. They have the 300 in stock where I live.

Hopefully when you do finally get it you think "im sure glad I waited. I love this rifle"

Oh I know I will. I got a custom serial number (my last name), slightly shorter LOP, and a cerakote/rifle stock color combo I haven't ever been able to find a picture of (green with black webbing stock, desert sand cerakote).

According to there IG page, they changed the action on the 92 a little. Might have been some of the hold up.

I didn’t recommend not getting the 338 because of recoil. The 300 and the 7 are both better ballistically. If I wanted a 338 I’d get a RUM or bigger.

However out to 600 yards which is my self-imposed Max shooting game and I like to be much closer than that would the better ballistics of the 7 or 300 matter much ?
