I understand that the answers will vary depending on what platform a person is using, but what is everyones overall weight on their backpack hunting rifle? I still shoot the same .270 win that I got 22 years ago as my first hunting rifle. I have since changed wiod stocks and scopes, but I feel at 11lb's fully loaded it would be considered heavy, but I don't really know any different. Reason I ask is I'm in the market for a lighter rifle, but not sure how much lighter I will end up once the new rifle is accessorized and loaded.

I have an 11+ lb Remington 700 in 7STW, a 8.5 lb browning X-Bolt hunter in 270 WSM, and on the way a Kimber Mountain Ascent in 6.5 Creedmoor that will come in at 5.75 lbs. All weights are scoped, before ammo.

I'm been trying to find out when the Ascent and Montana 6.5 CM's are going to be shipped to dealers. Haven't been able to confirm a date other then June/July. When are you suppose to get your Ascent?

My main 2 backcountry rifles are Tikka Superlight .308 weighs 6lbs 15.7 oz loaded wearing a Leupy VX-2 3-9x40mm and a Weatherby Vanguard .300 WM weighs 8lbs 6.8oz unloaded which includes a Burris FFII 4.5-14x42mm.
I wouldn't want either any lighter honestly.

I've got a .280ai Savage 110 that tips the scales at 11lb, my Axis 6.5x55 comes in just under 8 & my newest favorite is a Savage Lightweight Hunter in .308 weighing right at 6 pounds.
All weights are including scope & a full mag.

I was told the Ascent 6.5 CM was special order only. I didn't look into the Montana. When i asked, they'd apparently made all of 3 of them. My dealer talked to Kimber for me, and I was told 90 day turnaround when he placed the order which puts me in late July / early August.

My Remington Model 7 FS (made in the mid 1980's) with Leupold VX3 2.5-8, Mountain sling & 5 rounds of 7mm-08 weighs 6.5#.

My Reington Model 7 in 7mm SAUM with a Leupold VX# 3.5-10 CDS, sling & 3 rounds weighs 7.8#.

Lightest rifle commercially produced, Kimber Adirondack - rifle alone - 4# 13 ozs. In same 7mm-08, sling and scope as above, would come in at 6# 1 oz.

Any rifle that I plan to carry a lot while hunting, if its over 6.5# rifle alone, I keep looking....

NULA 6.5 Creedmoor

Kimber rifle would be close to the same weight at about 1/2 the cost. In fact, my next rifle purchase will be anice Adirondack in 308.

Chatting with a few Kimber dealers...they are saying inventory to be received mid to late June...and not special order for 6.5 cm...at least not on the Montana(?)

...sorry for sidetracking this post

The Mountain Ascent (.308, 7mm-08, 6.5 CM) is listed at the same weight, with a 22" instead of 18" barrel.

Could be - I only asked about the Mountain Ascent, not the Montana. My dealer didn't know so had to call his rep at Kimber.

Regardless - available this summer and happy to have one coming!

Yeah, well it's official. My 25+ yr old .270 Win Mag is a Boat Anchor.

That's funny because back then I didn't know anyone that was out searching for a "lightweight" rifle. We just grabbed whatever we had and went hunting. I'd carry my 10+lb 7mag all day in the mountains, every day of the hunt, and never give it a second thought. That's why it has a sling on it.
