Rifle sling suggestion...

I've got one of the Mystery Ranch hand's free rifle slings. Works great, clips in to whatever pack you use, I don't see it on their website anymore though.

I use the Ultimate , but that looks like one I could use also. Any idea who might have something similar? No luck on their page.

If you find yourself doing much still hunting in the timber (which I do quite a bit for elk and sometimes mulies) I'm a fan of the boonie packer safari slings.

Nice to distribute the weight across both shoulders and also not worry about the rifle slipping off of one. Rifle always safe and secure and is totally hands free when getting the binos up.

They're not for everyone and may leave some to be desired as an aid for positional shooting in the 200-300yd range. But to enable quick shots inside 100yds they're nice.

In very steep country I strap the rifle to my pack. So it bounces back and forth between sling and pack a little throughout the day.

I have one of those too but never figured out how to wear it comfortably with a bino harness.

Hm I don't have any issues between it and the bino harness... I sometimes have to faff with the LH shoulder strap on my backpack?

What's your trouble with the bino harness?

Another leather fan here. I’ve used all different kinds of slings and the leather cobra slings are my favorite. Great if you use a sling as supporting aid because they don’t stretch like neoprene

I need a new rifle sling (I've searched the forums on this topic without success). It will be used on my shoulder/hiking; not attached to a backpack. I have liked ones with some neoprene and rubber (or other material) for shoulder grip. Any suggestion on what you have found, that you like, would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Lot of positive comments on the ultimate. I have one and hate it, would never use it on any firearm. It is heavy and not at all convenient for me. I'm surprised I have it and have not thrown it away.

Do you run it with the your rifle ridding above, in front or bellow your bino harness?
Rifle below bino harness, I have probably 2-3" clearance from scope to bino case?

That said I'm 6'5" and tend to run my bino harness fairly high on my chest while I've seen some guys run it lower on the belly. If you are shorter or run the harness lower I could see having some overlap that would be real annoying

The Wilderness Rhodesian sling may be worth a look. Allows for a super solid loop support, but also functions as a normal shoulder sling. Though I’m getting away from this type of shooting the more I practice with the type of stuff Shoot2Hunt talks about.

I’m on the cusp of just deciding to go slingless. I feel like if I’m just focused on covering ground, it might as well be on the pack or maybe use a hands free thing like the kifaru gun bearer or mystery ranch referenced earlier. If I’m anywhere that an elk is likely to be, trekking poles are on the pack and the rifle is in my hands.

I like my bino harness high but you at 6'5" and me at 5'7", you definitely have more real estate to play with! Lol. Maybe I'll have to mess around with it again and see if I can make it work. Lots of people seem to really like it.
