Rifle scopes you'd love to see Form test

That sounds like something you'd say at a meeting of people recovering from using rubbish scopes for too long ...

Which I guess some of us are, so is apt!
Ha! Didn't even think of it that way.

Was thinking about the 2-12 Helos, but can't bring myself to support Chicom goods when there's a choice. But, still, I like to learn from others' experiences, so I appreciate when anyone takes the time to share.

No worries, I’ll drop my Helos when I get around to it. I’m going to swap it to an AR soon. That should eliminate the whole “base is a weak link and could have shifted” argument that the fanboys use.

Supposed to be freezing rain this weekend so I won’t be hitting the range this weekend.

Fwiw opinion…

Automotive organizations that rate: jd powers set the benchmark for consumers on initial quality. Consumers reports looked at this too but also more sustained use and longer term use.

Neither organization purchased an acceptable statistical “n” of 500 Honda accords, camarys etc. they bought one of each from various dealers. The same purchase any consumer would.

The statistical burden on product quality falls to the manufacturer, if they truly want more of their products sold. Those I’m familiar with actually do a remarkable process of quality testing starting with raw materials, sub assembly thru finished cars. 30+ years ago one could argue they’re execution may be poor or not relevant…

Those old enough, might realize these two organizations highlighted what consumers couldn’t afford to do - buy one each of say 4 cars they liked and sell 3 - and indirectly in my mind have had the most impact on domestic manufacturers internal changes to improve product quality. These companies absolutely seek favorable ratings and this drives internal initiatives etc. heck we had jd powers speak annually in our company to the leadership team.

I think of these tests Form is doing as consumer reports for aiming devices called scopes.

I’m sorry to be so late to this thread, and to the testing being done. Thank you.

I did read all 17 pages of this thread, in one sitting, so I’m not completely lazy - but is there a sticky (or are there stickies) of the tests and/or results? I do see that my two current scopes have already been suggested (Tract and Swaro Z5), but I read enough about the latter that I’ve already (a) been looking at alternatives, especially NF, and (b) I’m reconsidering my position on SFP vs FFP.

Yes, here in its own subforum: https://www.rokslide.com/forums/forums/rifle-scope-field-evaluations.133/

I’ve had two, still have one, and it’s one of favorite budget feature rich scopes…took one whitetail with a 6.5 Grendel SBR I built with this on it this fall. I have dialed it a bit and it has tracked and RTZ so far. I can’t afford NF & Trijicon (try as I may) scopes for as many rifles as I’d like to have, and this is one of my favorites right now. Sure, and SWFA is a better optics but like you said, these are available and I can get them not far north of $400. No, it’s not traveling with me to hunt out west, but for what it is I like it.

As an aside, I got a Vortex (I know, puke right!) PST Gen 1 2.5-10x44 in MRAD in today, couldn’t resist the $330 Midway USA price. I needed a cheap scope for a cheap rifle, and man…I really, really like it playing with it. Great reticle, great illumination, some cool design features, and some of the best feeling turrets I’ve ever fingered. At 19oz. So that’s one I’d like to see tested. I think Form has a 2.5-10x32 slated for testing?

I have been peer pressured into capitalizing on a Rokslide Classifieds opportunity to de-chinafy and form-erize my SBR. I like it so far.

They may be as awesome as every one says…. Or they may just not have been used hard.

My sample of one (3-24x52) was not awesome. Took an act of congress to dial out parallax, have the target in focus, and get a non fuzzy reticle at the same time. Was much happier with the LRHS that I replaced it with functionally.

I have traded that potential for an eotech vudu… will probably just get the little NXS and call it a day though.

I found enough dirt on March that I lost interest considering the price… an extra thousand bucks because of curiosity doesn’t sound very logical if I say it out loud 😉

I’m not stoked on the huge mag ranges either

Same for me. The D24V42FIML with the FML is one I'd really like to try....but I don't feel like gambling the $. The mag range is beyond what I need....nothing wrong with having it but to get it, optically, there have to be trade offs. I am curious about it from the 3-12/15x range and the FML reticle. I would love to put one to use for a while and see how it does.

Form will be out of service for awhile. So the drop tests will be on hold too. I will drop the Maven when I get it back but I don't have the time to test multi-able scopes like Form.
