So seriously..
I dont hunt off a horse so answer is no. But I have missed many a shot at elk for other reasons--like:
Fell asleep under a tree and elk ran past me waking me up
Didnt have a round in the chamber
Slow reflexes--got surprised
I've live in elk country and have been hunting elk for 51 years now and am old and slow....thats caused missed chances

There were probably 75-100 cows and calf elk in my pasture the last couple days. Attaching a pic of some of the calves having a drink at my water trough this evening.

If anyone has put any time into hunting, a gun on a sling over your shoulder, or in a scabbard will lose opportunities. I just don't see riding on a horse with a gun ready to shoot - but I don't ride horses.

Lots of folks say you shouldn't carry a loaded rifle - they miss opportunities too.

I think these aren't really missed opportunities,as sometimes you don't have enough time to shoot.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Have you ever missed an opportunity because you couldn't get the gun out of a scabared in time to shoot???

Yes and all also didn’t get a shot at a broadside elk 100 yds away cause guide wouldn’t let me chamber a round while sitting stationary . Elk came running out looked right at us as I’m trying to quietly chamber round busted!!!

I missed an opportunity once because my rifle was in a scabbard, the scabbard was on a horse, I was off the horse taking a poop when the elk came down the trail.

I got the same impression. That the OP has some sort of quickdraw scabbard or other horseback rifle carrying system that he’s come up with.

Not really. If I'm off the horse my rifle is in my hand. If I'm mounted it's in the scabbard. I will not shoot from a mounted position, period, so it really hasn't cost me any lost shot opportunities.
