Rifle carriers so close…

I like the gunbearer, but the issue I have is that my rifle wants to twist in it. Such that the scope would face forward, away from my body. It can also be annoying to have to dismount the rifle to sit down or similar.

@LongWayAround Did you experience this issue with the standard or Universal Kifaru Gun Bearer?

I ask because I had a Universal Gun Bearer before I had a Kifaru pack setup. No matter what I did I experienced this frustration of the rifle twisting and scope down/forward. There just doesn't seem to be a way to appropriately fasten the upper of the Universal to the shoulder strap without the rifle twisting during movement.

Once I got a Kifaru setup and the standard gun bearer I no longer had the issue once I found just the right sweet spot for the location of the upper (shoulder strap) and the length of the lower cradle.

@Bluumoon In your photos, do I interpret what you're using is the Kifaru Universal Gun Bearer upper? I like this idea for packing in pre-hunt. Unsure how quick it would be to deploy a rifle during the hunt, but for the approach may give this a try to keep the rifle stowed out of the way and weight distributed vertically to the frame/belt.

Correct. It may not be quite as fast as the forward facing orientation, but I’ve gotten pretty dang quick w it. So far the biggest issue for me is the strap looks and feels like every other strap, so when you are excited it’s harder to find.

I am using a universal and it is somewhat Jerry-rigged to my exo pack. You are probably correct that the issue is a function of my anchor points at the pack belt and shoulder strap.

The setup works well for my shotgun while turkey hunting, but a compact rifle with a big scope does not sit very well.

For those of you struggling with the rifle twisting in a Kifaru gun bearer, this is the easy fix. Mine is cobbled together with pieces of 2 different versions of the fix(webbing and cord) but just cord works great with a line-loc adjuster. And if the cradle itself is not large enough for your stock, pretty easy to whip one up out of some 2” webbing and any sewing machine.
