In Colorado as long as your guns are properly secured I haven’t seen them have issues? But if your guns aren’t secured they could probably add it to the list of infractions.

The CPW officers I know would, and do so without hesitation. Why? Because doing dumb stuff eventually leads to others having to try and correct your mistake(s) and living the rest of their life knowing the couldn't when they fail.

I came on this ATV accident this summer with a solo fire chief trying to land a helicopter while also doing chest compressions. I got flight landed while CPW showed up and continued compressions for close to an hour before the coroner showed up.

Your ATV is designed for one, stick to what it is designed for because a tree/earth/boulder/vehicle will always win when person #2 ends up no longer on the 1-person ATV.

I looked into it years ago for Colorado as I only had capacity to haul one ATV at the time for the wife and I. I believe it IS the law and ticketable, just because people do it and "never been a problem" doesn't mean it's not illegal, just like riding that ATV where you're not supposed to as people get away with that all the time as well. I like to be a stickler for every little thing so I can spout off if the GW is rude without talking myself into tickets so we didn't do it.

I would definitely find a Game Warden and ask them... before they find you and tell you...

The other thing, in the terrain you are talking about, do you really want to risk it? Obviously I don't know the ATV you are riding, but if it's designed for one and you have to cram another person on it, its a recipe for disaster. With weight balance points and such, not worth it in the mountains. If you were going down a beaten path/trail is a different story, but I would advise against it with what you want to do.

Is it really illegal? I've ridden double all over CO. Never had a problem but can't remember ever coming in contact with LEO while riding. Don't remember seeing anything that said it was illegal, but never really looked into it.

In Idaho, it is your god given right to drive at least two forms of motorized vehicles anywhere you want to. As long as both of you are drinking Busch Light, you will be fine.
Do you... and I'm asking for a friend... have to drive them both at the same time? Like ride your horse balanced on an ATV? I mean, you said Idaho...

In a few days we have the biggest ice fishing tourney in the nation and you will see all kinds of people riding all over lake oahe two on one. All over the dakotas before side by sides thats how alot of people did it all time and never seen a wreck other than people trying to drive of pressure ridges and falling in.

@sndmn11 Do you know exactly what happened in that accident? I've been on some sketchy roads in Colorado and that picture is definitely not one of them. I'm assuming speed and/or alcohol...

Grew up in Idaho, rode doubles often and was never cited. Maybe that's changed since I moved though.
