Always cool when forum members offer top notch niche services/gear.

I sent a Stockys VG down to @Tanner in the People's Republic of Colorado for some work and am impressed with the results. I asked him to enlarge the palm swell and add grip. Turned out exactly like we discussed.

Wanted to share since I'm guessing there's a nice lil market here for him.

His mods make an already very serviceable stock pretty outstanding, 10/10 recommend.

Will update once I get it Cerakoted next month.

Looks great, one thing I recommend is
Pulling the tape and feathering the edges before the epoxy dries so you don’t have the hard line. I would defiantly sand those down before cerakote. Ive done a few of these and the ones I did that with I liked a lot better.

I saw where he posted his procedure and materials for doing this and did it on my VG howa LA, his looks pretty than mine for sure. also been copying his sponge paint ideas.

makes the stocks feel much nicer, shortening the trigger is reach is the huge the one for me.

That's a good tip. My gunsmith is going to sand blast the stock prior to CK so I'll have him hit the epoxy edges a lil bit

Yeah seems he's got a system down pat.

I considered DIY but for what he charges it was a no-brainer to just have him do it right the first time. No mess, no time, great results... easy button.

Good idea, appreciate the feedback. That would certainly be a step up aesthetically.

Thanks for the kind words Ian. It’s a cheap upgrade to make a nice stock feel really nice!

For anybody wanting the easy button on your Stockys VGs or really any other stocks needing texture and grip mods, feel free to shoot me a PM. I feel the cost is pretty reasonable and I can turn them around pretty quick. This is probably the favorite couple I’ve recently done for myself. A VG, and Kimber 8400. These slick feeling stocks really benefit from some grip and so far it’s been extremely durable and takes paint great.

Little bit of an illustration for those on the fence… the difference between a stock VG and a modified one… night and day difference for me in hand…IMG_3995.jpeg

Just finished up another VG for a member here and hopefully he will chime in with feedback once he gets the chance to bolt it together and shoot it.

Feel like I’ve got this process down to a science at this point, and these stocks feel really nice post “treatment”. Now I just need to invest in a Cerakote setup…..

FWIW, between the grip buildup, texture, and paint, I added 1.2oz to the overall stock weight.

Another VG done for @Spoonbill. For reference this stock arrived right at 27oz. Weight gained feels like a good trade off for the increase in comfort and not having the stock fly out of your hands like a greased up piglet. Realized about halfway through that this was a left handed stock… I don’t miss much…

Quick review on this so far. The bottom metal fit isn’t great and so I haven’t shot it yet (waiting on shims) but the texturing and paint is awesome. I had this stock shipped to @Tanner when I bought it, so can’t compare how it was before. The built up grip shortens the trigger reach to be perfect for me. Honestly it reminds me of a clays gun and the texturing allows for a solid grip. Looking forward to shooting it.

Happy to hear that it feels good for you.

For what it’s worth, comparing the modified VG to a Peak44 Bastion, I prefer the grip on the VG after buildup and texture.
