I've been looking for a shoe that bridges the gap between trail runner and boot; going to give the Attivas a go to see if they fill that gap.

First I ordered the Attiva in my normal size—11 (44.5); received them and they were waaaaay too big. Ordered a 10.5 and it was too big as well. Ordered a 10 and it looks like it's going to work. I own three pairs of Crispi boots, all in size 11 and all fit great. I own a half dozen LaSportiva Akashas, all in size 11 and they fit great.

Size 10 and two size 11's :)

Well the speed lace system had to go; too much trouble getting my foot in. Also the laces were too short when you removed the little toggles, so had to get some longer cord.

I did use them yesterday on my first weighted/steep workout. The trail climbs 1200' in a mile, so it's steep. It's also littered with rock; obnoxious fine grit rock, little rock, medium rock, big rock and stretches of just rock slab. The Vibram soles did a good job.

The pack was 35 lbs and didn't feel uncomfortable w/ the low shoes.

Those boots trashed my heels, fit seemed good and they were light and comfy until I covered some miles. First and last pair of Crispi for me.

I have since switched to barefoot "boots".

I haven’t had any issues with my heels; if the toe box was a little bigger I wouldn’t complain.

Great write up Mike. The sizing thing is maddening!

La sportiva is that way for me, with their Raptor 2's. I had to go up a half size on them.

My wife has a pair of Raptors—she loves them.

I tried several La Sportiva shoes back when I was running, all were too tight in the toebox—then the Akasha came out. Honestly I think I’ve worn out close to twenty pairs of them— I keep a “stock” of them in my closet :)

I picked up a pair of attivas this spring for the same reasons as Mike. Often found myself wearing sneakers in the summer because boots seemed unnecessarily cumbersome... for me they've been a perfect middle ground and I find myself wearing them all the time even just to walk the dog in slightly messy conditions around the neighborhood. They of course shine on summer hikes in the mountains, so long as you aren't worried about rolling an ankle.

Interestingly I ordered a 10.5 which is the same size I wear in my Crispi Wyoming II's, and they fit fine
