Restricted Weapons- Best Sight to use- Iron,peep,ladder?

I have a restricted weapon hunt in Utah this year and just wondering what everyone’s favorite sight is to use on muzzleloaders or rifles? Regular iron sights? Peep sights? Or ladder sights? Looking at Williams, Skinner, and Lyman but just curious what other guys prefer?

I like a peep but keep in mind, it is almost impossible to see through at extremely low light. On my last two elk hunts, I had to unscrew the peep and just use the ring starting at about 15 minutes before last light. I use the Williams.

I’m a big fan of the vintage steel Redfield and Lyman receiver sights. Not as enthusiastic about the more modern aluminum sights from Williams, but I have them on a few rifles and they work just fine.

Here’s a Redfield I just finished putting on a T3X Drover in .308. Still messing with the overall combo, but it’s showing some promise.

Hey all,

Utah just introduced restricted rifle hunts that only allow open/peep sights for some of their deer hunt units. Could I get some recommendations on what to use? Trying to see if there’s an easy solution that would just mount on the picatinny action and not require adding some sort of front sight and/or barrel modification.

I prefer an aperture sight. And screw the aperture insert out and throw it away. I’m not shooting past 300 with irons on game and would rather have the light than the small amount of added precision to be gained.

I also like the long discontinued Sourdough front that Redfield used to make. Anything with a square top, a plain black post I’ll take before a bead.
