Replica sheep horns

X2 for trappermanantlers. Guy who I helped on a hunt last year had one made for me. Multiple people who picked it up thought it was a real skull. Color and weight is super realistic. View attachment 1002156
That looks great. I agree, picking them up in the shop it was really close as far as weight and feel to the real thing.

The only thing that I can't decide on is whether to do a 2nd replica that I would do as a european mount to keep up at my office. I'm 100% for sure doing the replica skull plate to put on the shoulder mount so that I can keep the real european mount to handle. Even have it sorted out on the base that I'm going to put the real euro on.

When I was looking at them at his shop, on the replica european mounts, the only thing I didn't really like was that if you look up inside the nasal passage it turns into a solid block after the first few inches. The sinus sticks out just like it would but after that maybe another 1" or so it just turns into a solid wall. I thought about using a dremel or something once I get it to hollow that out a bit so it doesn't just end up a straight up and down wall.

Anyone know what that looks like on the Wyo Backcountry Decor ones? The full skull version is an extra $200 over the skull plate version from trapperman and I need to decide before he does the cast. I'm leaning toward doing it anyway as it is basically 1/2 price to do the 2nd one but haven't 100% decided.

Yeah that’s correct. When looking in the nasal cavity there is a “wall” where the material stops. From a front on view you can definitely tell it’s a replica. The only other complaint I have is that there is no brain stem hole either. So there is no way to hang it like a conventional euro skull. I have mine propped up with an antler stand right now, and I’m sure there are other options I haven’t looked into yet. But it does look and feel super realistic. Very happy with the end result!

Just out of curiosity why get a replica vs mounting the real ones?

I am getting 3 replicas of mine - one for each of my buddies that helped me and one for the shoulder taxi mount. The real skull/horns/euro I will just have on a table /stand mount so when you come over you can pick 'em up to heft and feel...cuz you know you want to! 🤣

lol, that makes sense

My son shot a big Cali when he was 14 and he wants a wall mount and I want the euro, so the replicas are going on the mount and I’m keeping the OG skull. I have not handled the replicas yet as they are at the taxidermist but I have the original at home.

I have all euro mounts. I have all my sheep sitting on the floor in my basement for people to pickup and feel/look at. I find myself doing it often. My kids always have questions about em.

I do plan to get a replica to mount one since I have a wet tanned hide taking up space in my freezer. So my follow on question is how/who are people trusting for shipping? What amount of insurance? I’ve found shipping insurance to be a joke at best.

Here’s a frontal view of a Wyo Backcountry replica skull. It gets solid back in the nasal cavity, but you need to look for it.

Thanks. That's probably pretty close to the Trappermanantlers ones. You can see the front part of the sinus bone for about an inch and then it goes to a solid back. Didn't take a ruler to it but I would guess about 1" of the actual sinus bone sticks out from the solid back. You do have to look up inside the nasal cavity to see the wall, seems to be further back on sheep than on a deer or elk. Probably better than some of the actual euros where the people just break the sinus bones out on purpose.
