Removing Kenai Holster Buckles?

I am considering removing the top and left hand side buckles on my Kenai chest holster. Currently carrying a G29 under a Marsupial Gear bino harness, and the large buckles (especially the top one) ride right under the top buckle of my bino harness, and gets pinched by the sternum strap of my pack.

I'm planning on picking up a buckle delete kit for the bino harness to eliminate some bulk up there, is there any reason I shouldn't cut 2 of the buckles off the chest holster and replace the connection with paracord loops? Is there maybe a better (less permanent?) option I could try first before cutting the buckles?

Would love to know what others have done as I also hate how big the buckles are on my Kenai Holster.

Technically it's permanent, but you can grab some "Chicago Screws" to have a somewhat decent way to reverse it.

Sometime this weekend I am going to try cutting off the top buckle that is attached to the holster, and removing the end attached to the harness, and just tying the two folded over pieces of webbing together with some cordage.

I'm going to cut the buckle off at an angle, so if all else fails, I can slide it back over the webbing. I will report back with an update.

Man I should’ve done this a long time ago… I used a dremel to cut the bottom buckle, and replaced the bulky plastic with a loop of paracord. This sits much better under my bino harness and I no longer have the giant buckles riding on top of my collar bone. 10/10 would recommend.

Can you show a larger pic of the entirely "new" harness set up? I'm having a hard time seeing what you're doing and why it's an advantage.

Thanks, mrbill

That is really smart. It is too bad that they have all that bulk with the buckles and don't have another option like this.

Every once in a while I come up with something good....

Still rocking it like this and it's been awesome, I don't miss the buckles at all.

Has anyone tried the marsupial holster option that attaches directly to the bottom of the pack? Why would one choose the Kenai over that option? More secure? Easier access? Debating options with the current gunfighter inc sale going on.

I don't like something like that hanging down over my stomach. Doesn't feel comfortable to me. Especially if you are sitting down. The Kenai places the pistol between your chest and bino harness and as much as I thought it would be weird I really like the fit. I like it high and tight on my chest.

I'll try and get a picture posted up this weekend. I would agree that having the pistol hang so low is not ideal, as well as the need for the extra thumb strap to keep the pistol secure. I can carry the kenai under my binos with no worries of loosing my handgun beating through brush. It might be slightly more comfortable than riding under the binos, but i mostly don't mind it, it's hardly noticeable with any amount of layering on and i'm on the skinnier side.

Might also be nice to keep the weight spread between two shoulder straps vs having it all on the one shoulder with the kenai, even with a glock 29, its obviously more comfortable to hike with just the bino harness. I do like having the option of keeping my pistol on me without necessarily having to have my binos, works well under waders, bibs, especially nice when field dressing game or that early morning dump in grizz country.

I like the subtlety of it as well, most people don't notice the handgun when it sits behind my binos vs having it hanging from the bottom and exposed, just more food for thought.
