Happened a few weeks back and apparently I missed it... but sounds like Remington and all it's companies are being sold off... including Marlin and Barnes among others.

Sounds like Ruger bought out Marlin... which could actually be awesome IMO...

Sierra bought out Barnes... that may be interesting I'm not sure?

per the article:

  • Vista Outdoor Inc. bought the Lonoke based ammunitions business and other IP assets
  • Roundhill Group LLC bought everything firearms that is non-Marlin
  • Sierra Bullets LLC bought Barnes ammunitions
  • Sturm, Ruger, & Co. bought Marlin firearms
  • JJE Capital Holdings LLC won DPMS, H&R, Stormlake, AAC and Parker brands
  • Franklin Armory Holdings Inc. won Bushmaster brand and some related assets
  • Sportsman’s Warehouse Inc. won the Tapco brands

Hmmm, it will be interesting to see what Sierra's experience brings to the mono bullet market.

I'd wait a couple of years for the QC to improve.
I picked up a new 1895 SBL earlier this ear and the QC was impeccable... very nice rifle... looked at another at the store and it was also perfect... smooth action, crisp trigger, all edges in the lever rounded, no stock gaps... been very happy with it.

I have heard the last 2 years or so they really improved FWIW... I had seen and heard things about earlier lever actions from Remlin that were not good tho.

Ya... or if they just shut Barnes down and take the tech for sierra mono metal?

I'm guessing either way barnes bullets may be hard to come by for a little while now as they transition.

@rileybassman, I'm glad to hear that. It sounds like Remington tried to improve QC before they went bankrupt.

I just read lots of horror stories or hit and miss QC stories. It's enough to make me avoid Remington until I'm certain Ruger has had time to implement QC measures across the board.

Ruger is not infallible but I do trust Ruger's QC more than Remington's for the last ~15 years.

For sure I agree... I never felt comfortable ordering a Remlin online... but the specimen I got I was happy with and was able to fondle it before buying so that always helps. All of the budget remington rifles of the last 10 years I picked up just didn't appeal or seam very well done IMO.

Totally agree about Ruger... their QC/warranty is also amazing... so even if there are a few kinks as they take over, I trust much more that they will make it right. It's kinda funny... when I compare my SBL to my Rehawk, I felt right away that they were in the same vein... excited to see what Ruger can do with this.

The Barnes line seems to have a significant following. Messing with that wouldn't be a good idea. Hopefully just a rebrand at most, and not mess with the line itself.

I hope they keep making accutips in 20 gauge. I think I bought the last four boxes in the world that were available online. They shot the best out of my new savage 220. I can pull the trigger 12 more times before I will be forced to go with a less accurate round.

My last Remington and last Ruger were both lemons. 700 ADL .204 that I had to rebarrel to get to shoot decently and a beautiful 10-22 Sporter that needed a new custom barrel to shoot decent and repeat reliably. Not impressed with either company and doubt the combo will get any of my $ in the future.

If Barnes is profitable as is I bet things keep on a truckin with minimal changes.

I find it funny that Vista bought the ammo plant. That will tank within a few years. Vista doesn’t have a good track record. They sucked the life out of Savage and then sold it for a huge loss to Savage Management. Bushnell and Weaver.

Vista owns CCI, Blazer, Speer, Federal, and couple other ammo manufactures....
