Remington 870 value question.

i am trying to understand the variation in values for this particular 870. I recently acquired a Remington 870 wingmaster LC, 26” barrel VT, high gloss, in 3”. It has the remchoke system and one choke and from what i can tell has never been fired. Order number on the box is 26929 with a serial RS2****F. While looking at gunbroker completed auctions i found a very similar gun, 26929, serial number RS6****Z. That firearm sold for $2,175 with 16 bids.

Can anyone help me understand what i have? I assumed it’s just a good condition 870 worth probably $500-600. I don’t understand that selling price. I have some very old 870s that were my fathers that i could see being collectible but id never sell them.

I have a 1978 wing master 20g my dad bought for me when I was 2. I passed it down to my son about 15 years ago. I’m not sure on the value on these either. They seem to be all over the place. You’re model is the one I always wanted though a 3 inch 12 wing master with Rem chokes with the 26 barrel. 28 were common but 26 in the 12 gauge were hard to find

I picked it up with a smith and Wesson model 60 no dash, r serial number for $350… i couldn’t believe it. Just don’t have any use for it. My old 870s have sentimental value and my super black eagle will never stay home on a hunt. It’s just crazy to me that a $500-600 gun is going for over a thousand on the auction.

Post on one of the shotgun sites, someone there will know the ins and outs of these. All I know is its pretty specific models, and certain years of production, etc. fwiw I have also heard with the change of ownership/bankruptccy a year or two ago that some very plain-jane remmies were getting top-dollar. I have a early 90’s 30-06 7600 carbine that I also considered ultra-utilitarian, someone told me they were going for $900+…I maybe was stupid not to put it on the block on the spot, but it may just be that kind of thing with a $2kplus 870 as well.
