Remington 700 question/ problem

So my buddy bought a used Remington 700 sps in 300 win mag and when your shoot it the case gets stuck. With some ammo it is so bad he said he had to beat on the bolt to get it open. He has tried quit a few different manufacturers but the all do it. Some worse than others. It’s almost like pressure signs but the thing is that it is all factory ammo. I have tried searching the web and can’t come up with any good answers and I am not sure what would cause that. Would appreciate help from some of you gun gurus. Thanks

My first thought was to clean it really well, and he did do that and said it got a very small amount better but not much.

Possible that primary extraction is not sufficient. I'll second the take it to a smith or study up on primary extraction and if it is that then send bolt to Accu-tig.

I will take a look at primary extraction. Thank you. I told him to take it to a smith but we don’t have one close and thought it might possibly be something I could do.

I'd check the dimensions on a fired case, gap at the extraction cam and scope base screws.

Where is the brass showing the bind? I'd sure stop shooting it until you get some answers or you're gonna be sending it off to Dan to have the handle welded on soon...

He hasn’t shot it in quite a while actually. We just got to talking about it the other day and said that it is worthless! Haha. I told him to give it to me. I am going to see if he will give me a couple pieces of brass and the gun to clean it better and do some investigating.

Stuff a round in it and snap a pic of the back of the action from the top, off bolt side.

sounds like carbon or moly build up in the throat or neck.

iosso on a patch driven by a drill worked in the neck may clean it up. I have seen it necessary to use scotchbrite on the drill to get it out.

That's where I was gonna go after seeing the brass. I like to plug the chamber and soak it.

Sounds like the primary extraction is not timed. Google Primary extraction and you'll be able to check for yourself.

Will need to see the brass. If there's ejector marks and swipes-its over pressure (could be carbon ring or headspace). If the case head is normal-it's the primary extractor and needs to be timed.

It could also be a rough chamber, if you look at the early reviews particularly of the 700 long range it seemed like almost half of them had chambers so rough cases could barely be extracted. Looking at once fired brass could help you narrow down the problem, a rough chamber will likely leave scratches, but it sounds like this gun really needs to go to a gunsmith.

I had a very similar issue with not one but two rems. Both where rough chambers. One had a burr the other was really rough. Polishing fixed both. Both barrels where short lived anyway since I trued both those actions and re barreled since
