I inherited from my dad when he passed away a Remington model 700 LSS Left Hand in 7MM Ultra Mag. Can you tell me what game you can hunt with this caliber? Unfortunately, I'm right handed so I don't know if I will be holding onto this.

I am keeping his Remington 700 BDL in 7MM Mag since I have fond memories of hunting with him while he used it and killed many dear.

Just curious about the ultra mag. Funny thing is he had another 700 LSA rifle but in 338 ultra mag. Go figure. When he bought the two, he wasn't even hunting at that time because he was much older.

You can hunt anything with it - overkill for deer, but should let the air out of anything you shoot with it.

If you don't reload, the trouble you will likely run into is finding ammunition.

I had a 7RUM for a number of years and shot pronghorn, mule deer, whitetail, and elk with it. I just varied the ammo according to the animal.
It was a great rifle but when the barrel toasted and it time for a new one I went back with a 7PRC. Longer barrel life and less expensive to load for.

Any cartridge shooting 100 gr of powder is going to have some kick. Of the mainstream cartridges it’s considered rather extreme for the amount of powder it burns for the bore size. It has the velocity of a 28 Nosler, but takes more powder to get there, but it’s good for anything on this continent with 175 gr bullets. Unfortunately it was developed before really heavy for caliber bullets were popular so it won’t have the twist for anything heavier.

I have two of the other RUMs, and will eventually try to get all four. The RUMs were impressive for the time period with the 7 RUM coming out in 2002. The RUMs are the absolute biggest cartridge the Remington 700 can take. The 28 Nosler is essentially a shortened 7 RUM and came out in 2015 and is produces about the same velocity with less powder.

If you can find ammo for it you can hunt any game in N America you would like
And get a tag for
Thank you for your reply. I think I have about 7 to 10 boxes of ammo for it. Roughly the same for the 338 ultra mag. My mom is like no wonder we were always broke.
