I have 3 of the 3x9x40 Trijicon Accupoints with the green mildot. They've taken beatings riding on my snowmachine and have all held up just fine. The non-battery green dot is awesome and the holdover's are easy to figure out.

I have a 700 mountain rifle in .280 rem and I put the 2.5-8x36 leupy on it in low Talley's...best combo I have. I had a 3-9x40 on it for years, but when I dropped that new 2.5-8x36 on it it seemed much more like it was "meant to be". Scope is shorter, lower...lines up nicer. Just "FEELS" better.

I've shot lots and lots of critters with it from 15-300 yards....and To be honest I've never really found my self thinking "dang, I wish I had more magnification". I have a Savage 116 300 win mag with a 4-12 on it...it's great.

I just think a "mountain rifle" needs a more compact and lower mounted scope to feel right.

I have a lss 700 30/06 mountain rifle with a older vx2 3x9x40 With leupold dual dovetail mounts. Its my do everything rifle .I ordered a McMillan mountain rifle stock and want a new scope,i want very dependable lightweight setup.Set and forget and thinking about a b&c retical if there beneficial.Would like to stay under 750 if possible.

I use one piece tallys on all my ultra light setups. I also like the vx3 Leupold 3-9 or 3.5-10x40. Good weight and light gathering. I think it allows me to run the tally lows also. I had a custom ballistic reticle installed on a 260 700 ti that I shot for about a decade. I Typically never shot that gun past 400 or so for hunting so didn’t feel the need to dial which kept the weight down. Good setup that checks most boxes for a reasonable price.

I tried the compact 36mm objective scope you and another mentioned for the reasons you’re looking at it, but I didn’t keep it long. I didn’t like the light gathering capabilities compared to my 40mm scopes. I’m not knocking it, as on paper it’s a sweet ultra light scope. It just seemed a bit lacking for my liking.

I’ve always been intrigued by a fixed 4 or 6 for durability, simplicity and lightweight but never have taken the plunge. Might be sweet with a custom reticle for big game.

Be sure to take a look at the new Trijicon Credo HXs. They are a lot of scope for the money. I have been slowly replacing my Nightforce scopes with Trijicons. I never thought I would see this day. They are made in the same factory and have the same glass as the Nightforce SHVs. I would recommend the Credo HX 2.5-15x42. Comes with Zero Stop, Illumination, and Parallax all for ~$800-850. I have mine mounted on my Remington 700 AWR in .270Win

I voted for the 4.5-14x40mm Leupold with the B&C reticle and still feel that's a good one to consider but the 2.5-8x36mm is a shorter lighter scope and would work every bit as well and would just fit, look, and carry nicely on that rifle. I would STILL get the B&C reticle. You will really like it. Zeiss Conquest is a good one too. Another to consider would be the 6x36mm Leupold or the 6x42mm Leupold. They would be the cats meow on that rifle also. I've had both of those scopes on rifles and loved them. If you wanted you could order the scope with the holdover dots for distance shooting based on your load that you shoot in your rifle.

The B&C reticle is excellent and is fast to use.

Leupold custom shop can change the reticle for you if it’s something that important to you. I have been pleased with the vx3i 2.5-8x36 that I have had for a couple years. Though maybe not cost effective, Leupold could possibly change the reticle to one you want in the scope you already have.

Eventually they will be able to. I called them about this a few months ago, and they said their custom shop was down due to Covid and not to expect anything out of them until after this passed. But it's always worth a call.

I went with the 3x9x40 trijicon accupoint with green mil-dot with tally lightweight lows.
Waiting on the gun to come back from cerekote to get it mounted.

Nice setup. I put and older .270 Mountain in an AG Composites Privateer. I was going to go with a McMillan but the wait time was twice that of the AG stock.
