Guys,
I've got a little bit of money in my pocket and I'd like to buy a pack. Specifically I've been looking at the kifaru e&e. Every time I get ready to place my order, I chicken out. Here is why:

- I have several army issued molle assault packs in various colors
- I have several army issued ruck sacks
- I have tons of issue sustainment pouches and issue belt pouches/fanny packs that attached nicely to the issue assault pack and ruck

I have a hard time rationalizing the need for something like an e&e when I have all those molle assault packs, which from the photos, appear to be about the same size (if not slightly larger) than the e&e.

The molle assault pack that I've used over the last eight years has made multiple trips to Iraq and Afghanistan and is still going strong. Does the e&e offer anything over the issue molle assault pack?

I suppose other than being a gear nerd, I don't really need another pack. But I don't underestimate the quality of kifaru gear. I have one of their doobies that has performed extremely well on numerous training exercises and will go with me to Iraq here in the near future.

I certainly appreciate your time and thoughts. I hate being such a tightwad with my money :)

The issued molle assault bag is a good deal bigger than the E&E. Something more comparable would probably be the X-Ray in terms of size. The E&E is nice, but is probably the size of a sustainment pouch on your ruck. To be honest I hate that issued assault pack anytime I have to use it... there's much better options in that size range (even outside of Kifaru for around $200 - look at the ATS RAID II for example).

Bottom line: The rucks and assault packs you have certainly work (obviously). If I was buying a Kifaru to head over seas with it would either be an X-Ray, Tarryall, or one of their larger rucks (AMR, Reckoning, etc).

One other plus that I can throw out there for using issued gear... when it gets trashed you usually get a replacement for no cost to you. Shred that Kifaru and it's all on you.

I carried an old Kifaru MMR on deployment for my ruck. It carried much better than the standard MOLLE II ruck, about the only downside is that the sleeping bag system was a bit of a tighter fit due to the narrower profile of the MMR.

Yea, by the time I add padded straps and OCP camo to the e&e, it's knocking $170. A little more saving would get me into the X Ray territory. I appreciate your thoughts!
