Long time reader, first time poster. Have a job interview in Brewster,Wa in a couple weeks. Things are looking promising. I’ve done some research but what kind of hunting opportunities am I looking at? Anyone in the area? Gonna be one hell of a change of pace from the woodlands of central Georgia. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. Up the Methow Valley you have Muley, Whitetail , turkey and bear to hunt. The Muley herd is not doing well, it was once great, not so much any more. The further east you go from there the better the bear, turkey & whitetail hunting gets. Head south and/ or west for elk & Blacktails. Hope this helps.

Yep. Well said. Many would consider Brewster a good jumping off spot for all kinds of hunting and fishing. Dry as a bone in summer.

I used to live both in the Methow and Okanogan valleys, long time ago. The Twisp/Winthrop areas have become much more populated and so I assume there is a lot more hunting pressure but should still be decent. As Scrubs said, NE of the Okanogan is better hunting. Have you been to Brewster? It's heavy apple orchard area.

Yeah, well said by the others above. A lot more public land relative to Georgia up here. Haha. Some of the best mule deer hunting is not far from there, but like they said the herd isn’t doing as well and the better draw hunts take a long time to acquire.

I have had pretty good luck duck and quail hunting in peteros too, I don’t make it that way to much anymore but it’s a beautiful area for sure. I wish I could make the same money on the east side of the state as I can on the west side then I would move over east.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! Heading up week after next to interview. The Washington BHA chapter seems to be relatively active in the Methow valley as well. If things work out and I head up that way, ill definitely be looking for someone to learn the ropes with. Thanks again!

If you buy a house make sure it’s defensible against wildfires. The fires in that area are almost an annual event.

Upland bird is excellent. Fishing can be excellent. Waterfowl and big game hunting can be good.

Biggest bear I’ve ever seen was just a few miles from Brewster.

One of my favorite spots in the state.

Great fishing year round in the Columbia for a variety of species. If you are going to be in WA for a while start putting in for sheep points. Big rams get taken every year by the 1 or two people lucky enough to draw the units along the river. Also, lots of Mountain goats in the Sawtooth/Lake Chelan rec area.
There are nice mule deer bucks to be had but getting away from the people takes just as much work.
Also, if you climb, the rocks up highway 20 are world class!

Welcome to the PNW!
