REI store credit or cash refund?

Does anyone know if REI will do a cash refund instead of store credit? I'm still not sure if my boots are going to work for me and I purchased them only a couple months ago. It would be nice If I could just get the money back to shop for boots elsewhere.

I have returned items for a refund. There policies are changing a little but it does still list "refund or exchange" within 1 year unless its an outlet item.

And you didn't just get store credit back? I could see how that could be interpreted for refund in store credit

From their website. "We will issue refunds to the original method of payment. Returns purchased as a gift or with a gift card, dividends, refund vouchers or merchandise credits will be refunded as an REI gift card or a refund check"
