REI Closes on Black Friday

Good. Black Friday and holiday shopping is a shit show no matter what. Anybody who chooses to shop on Black Friday (or Thursday evening-don't get me started on that bullshit) must have a screw loose.

Good deal. We are drowning ourselves in consumerism. A push back against it is in order.

I imagine the Rokslide crowd is pretty Black Friday averse anyway. I do most of my shopping online anymore anyways. Good for REI.

Several years ago I had absolutely no idea WTH "black Friday" was. I was in some friends elk camp just sort of helping out as I wasn't a big game hunter yet. So I head to my Aunt's for Thanksgiving dinner were I sprained my ankle on a sidewalk in the dark really bad. Heading back to elk camp at like midnight I'd figure I'd stop at WallyWorld for an ace bandage and some aspirin. Holly crap! I'm all dressed in camo and come hobbling up all gimpy while throngs of old fat ladies in pajamas are bull rushing past me on their way to the entrance. The door greeter takes one look at me and says, "You're not here for black Friday are you." My response, of course, was, "WTH is Black Friday." They were nice enough to go a grab an ace bandage and some aspirin for me.

I am often stunned how the majority of Americans live and never more so than that night!

Good for REI #optoutside!

Amazing, we are seeing more and more companies open on Thanksgiving night to get the jump on the Black Friday shoppers, completely disregarding their employees' desire to be with their families on one of our most significant holidays. I'm impressed.
