I’m eyeing getting an e-bike for travel, mountain biking, exploring and hunting. Has anyone used a regular electric mountain bike for hunting? It looks like the load capacity on high end ones are the same as these hunting specific bikes and there are rear racks made to go on full suspension.

So other than price and skinnier tires, is there a reason to go with the hunting specific bikes? Everything else on the hunting seems kinda janky with off brand shocks etc.

Spend the extra $ and get one from a bicycle company not a hunting company. A few things I'd recommend are hardtail (front suspension only), fat tires, and a mid drive motor (I'd recommend Bosch). The best thing you can do is buy one from a local bike shop so they can help you if anything goes wrong. I bought a Moustache and I love it.

I bought a quality hard tail and am planning to add a mid drive motor and battery to it.

Why a hard tail? My current analog setup is full suspension.

Moustache has many styles. And I know nothing.

Which model would work best for hunting? (mostly thinking of elk in mountains)

I have the Samedi 26 Fat. The fat tires are a game changer, it's like riding a motorcycle. If you've got the cash I'd highly recommend one. I've got the medium and I'm 5'10" 185.

Yeah, I'd do a hardtail from one of the bigger manufacturers. Ability to mount racks, storage is much easier on a hardtail. Also, major manufacturers (I'm thinking Trek, specialized, giant) have more bike shops, retail outlets spread across the country so easier to get serviced if needed. Not that others can't be as well.
