After trying several reflex sights on my Bergara B14 in .308 Win, I wanted to share some thoughts about using them for hunting, especially in dense woods where quick target acquisition matters. Overall, reflex sights proved excellent for fast shots at close ranges, up to around 150 meters. The biggest challenge I found was that many models don’t have enough brightness on sunny days, and ease of use - especially when wearing winter gloves - turned out to be even more important than I expected.

I’m now looking at the Browning Buck Mark reflex sight as an option for my son’s lightweight .22LR rifle. From what I’ve read, it seems to work well on rimfires, but I’d really like to hear from anyone who has tried that combo. How well does it hold zero on a .22LR? Is brightness adjustment practical in the field? And does parallax become noticeable beyond 50 meters?

Quick update for anyone looking into this setup - I ended up picking up the Browning Buck Mark Reflex Sight https://gritroutdoors.com/browning-buck-mark-reflex-sight-1290230 for my son’s .22LR, and after two weeks of use, I’m impressed. It’s held zero perfectly through over 300 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity, with no noticeable shift even after being transported in a padded case. The brightness settings cover all lighting conditions we’ve encountered so far — levels 8 or 9 have been ideal for bright Colorado days, and it still works well at dawn. One unexpected plus: the oversized adjustment buttons actually work well with my son’s winter gloves, which was a nice surprise. My only real complaint is that the 3 MOA dot can obscure about an inch and a half at 50 yards, which is fine for casual plinking but makes precise squirrel headshots a bit trickier.
