I own 170 acres in central Texas and have seen Red Stag a few times during the Spring and Summer at a high protein feeder over the past 3 years. I know these Stags have escaped from high fence ranches in the area, but are running wild.

Was wondering if anyone could take a guess at how big this boy might get based on his growth so far this Spring? Pictures are from May 5th and 6th.

Whitetail at this time I can see brow tines and about 2" of main beam, you can imagine my surprise when I saw this guy.

Same whitetail twice for reference and the two other Stags I've seen.

Do the ones you've seen fully grown get wild big crowns or are they more clean, like a free-range stag that's genetics haven't been controlled?

Seems like he'll be a good one regardless, but I think if he's got the high-fence genetics, that would make more sense for the amount of growth he's got going on.

I don't know anything about TX stags, but been around em a lot in Argentina. He seems like this could be his eventual style, but longer tined.

I have only ever seen them about this time of year. They come to the protein feeder in the Spring and disappear during the Summer/Fall/Winter. So I've never seen them fully developed and out of velvet.

I was thinking this year I might try to use an attractant in October/November. I've read somewhere that Elk Cow Estrus can work.

My family really likes venison, and I've read that Red Stag meat is really good? 🤞🏻
