Record Book Deer

I personally enter all animals I am fortunate enough to harvest that make Pope and Young. I am a lifetime supporter that has met some great people through their organization, some of which I have formed lifetime friendships with.

If you are in that position financially... I'd do just the opposite. Not enter your animals and join as an associate ($40), to support the club and get the quarterly magazine. Once you read your first magazine, cover to cover, you'll understand what's it's all about... I promise... You'll get a better understanding of the records program as well. Ed F

If you love bowhunting, the magazine alone is worth becoming a member.

Tembry,

Your time has come for PY! Lighted nock and bow-mounted cameras are now allowed in PY!

To answer the question, I enter all qualifying animals. I have 5, all whitetails and they are in the book. Why do I do it? It is hard to explain. One reason is I don't shoot any whitetail that won't make PY, (there could be exceptions), and just like some guys don't shoot them unless they mount them, if I shoot them I enter them. Also, growing up it seemed to be a bigger deal and for that reason I always held the club in high esteem. I'm an avid supporter in what they do as a club.

I'm also a member and a measurer. Volunteering as a measurer is great because I get to meet like minded bow hunters.

No I wouldn't and haven't, nor will I. Not a fan of the books, nor do I hold either club in high esteem. Just my personal opinion.

I wouldn't primarily because it requires me to list the county the animal was taken in. Out west with giant counties, maybe this isn't a problem. In my area with smaller ones it really increases hunting/leasing pressure when big deer are taken. Poaching pressure increases immensely too. With very little public land as land is leased more and more people turn to road hunting or trespassing as they lose their spots to hunt. I'm fortunate enough to work on a family ranch so I have places to hunt still, but I no longer hunt much that we don't own that I'm not trading labor for permission on. I take care of cattle for a guy on summer grass in return for the hunting rights to his place. I've taken 2 whitetail that net over 170 in my life (official score) and won't enter either in a book. I know what they score, not to worried about anyone else knowing.
