Been doing more rucking by filling up a sandbag and putting it on my frame.

I have my boots covered for rougher terrain, but what would you guys recommend for mainly pavement rucking?

I was in the same boat. I wanted a pair of shoes I could do some cardio in like junprope then use to just throw my pack on and walk a few miles with the dog.

Based on recommendations from rokslide, I picked the altra lone peak shoes. I have not tucked in them but once or twice before the winter really set in but they worked great for what I wanted.

The first time I used them I did a junprope/lunge workout which lasted ~ 45 minutes then right away threw on my Kifaru 14er with 30 lbs in it, leashed my dog and went and did a “fast” 3 mile walk.

The shoes were perfect for that. I really like them and I’ll buy more. For any workouts that don’t involve a lot of impact though like rowing or hiit stuff, I like my inov8s best. It for jump roping and rucking the altars are nice.

I just use my hunting boots, which are what i wear everyday around town and for construction anyway. Its good to stay used to packing weight with your hunting boots IMO, probably not a bad idea to wear yours at least once in a while too

If im rucking i wear my hunting boot. I just dont think running shoes provide the necessary support over time under load. Plus it ensures im comfortable in my boot.

I like a lightweight boot, running shoes don’t have the support when you get up to 30-lbs, lost toe nails and bruised feet suck. My favorites were a discontinued Under Armour but am wearing Sportiva and Merrels now. A lot of the GoRuck guys like Salomon That I ruck with.

Thanks for the replies. Anything over 35lbs, I wear my Salomon boots or my broken in boots from my Army days. Just looking for some shoes for the lighter rucks. Going with the Altras as I really liked my last pair.

I just bought a pair of oboz bridger mid. That is great hiker! I wouldn’t hesitate to hike with 35 lbs or fo done trail jogging- very agile yet supportive shoe. but it is not a true heavy pack mountain boot. It isn’t as stiff as my salwah which I use for most training, snd I wouldn’t want run in the those.

Altars are great for light rucks, I wore mine today after work to walk my dog, wore a 25lb pack. Obviously if I was going to the mountains and carrying real weight I’d use boots.

I've been very happy with Salomon speedcross 5s. Lighter weight over trails or roads and they are great. I do a lot of running in them too. I'll be getting more when these are worn out.

I’ve used a couple versions of the lone peak (and other pavement oriented Altras) and had pretty good luck. Have done a tone of hiking in lone peaks. But they have a really sloppy toe box on technical terrain. I tried Topo Athletic shoes on a whim and was pleasantly suprised. They have a nice roomy fit for your toes to splay naturally, yet they are far less sloppy than an Altra. Instead of being Zero drop, most are minimal at 4mm or so which is also super comfortable. They are also a lot more durable than an Altra. Something to consider.
