It is going on my new 338Fed so my maximum shots are 350-400 yards but will be taken on some big hunts to Africa, Alaska and western US. I want to keep it under 22 ounces, preferably under 20. Being able to make a shot in low light is very important to me. I am not buying a Leupold. I can dial for elevation but would need a locking turret. I can use just the reticle without dialing too. The Vortex Razor LHT meets the requirements but I do not know how it is in low light and….it is a Vortex. I am also looking at a Swarovski Z5, Zeiss V4 with various reticles. Anything else out there I need to look at? I am not too worried about budget but planning on $1500 but would spend more for the right scope.

Those are high dollar hunts in which failure of your optics should not be an option. The Vortex, Swaro, Zeiss options you mentioned are not known for their reliability.
For low light, you do not need a huge objective lens, just a good reticle.
Combined with fairly close max range, ie 400 yards, and a reticle that allows for precise use without dialing,
what I would put on that gun is a Nightforce NX8 1-8 with FC-DMx reticle.

Eotech Vudu, Trij Credo, upper end Leupy, AMG Vortex and Razor LPVO are rock solid with good glass.

Please do tell - LPVO and 2-10x
Negative. Half those recommendations are NOT rock solid.
Trij VCog ? Trij Credo? Trij Accupoint?? Vortex Razor / AMG?? Leupy Mk4??
Leupy Mk 4 are standard issue on M1A...Semi Auto 308 on a M1A chassis is a big can of recoil.
Check out Sagedynamics on Youtube- Aaron does drop rest on concrete 3x's with LPVO's.
Allow me to suggest - you are comparing apples to oranges.

The Trijicon's are good, however no Leupold or Vortex has ever passed an actual eval.
There are scopes in every budget and configuration that can now be bought that do pass, ie SWFA, Trijicon, Maven and Nightforce.

"So far with three scopes:
They are not passing the Drops evals on demand. They are consistently inconsistent."

Allow me to point out 400 yards. LPVO and MVPO if you want to jump up to a 2.5-10x and 22oz.

Any of the recommendations are solid including the Razor. For your consideration.

If the 2.5 -10x Leupy MK IV didn't pass - allow me to suggest - it is a sample of one.
That scope is legendary with the MA1/SAGE platforms
Any scope that has seen decades of military service and still is recommended on a heavy recoil rifle gets the benefit of the doubt imo.

The MVPO FFP Vudu is on my 338 winmag and it is a very nice scope and holds zero all day long.

Ah yes, because the military is the gold standard for high performance equipment.

A quick search here will find a multitude of leupold failures on pretty much every model.

I was wondering when sage dynamics drop tests would show up on Rokslide

NF is the obvious choice for reliability, although I dont personally care for their reticles, which is why I dont currently own one. I'd be tempted to look for a trijicon with a mil-dot reticle for quick, consistent holdovers in the reticle. I've had 2, a credo and an accupoint, and I find them good scopes, as-bright as my leupolds were, very good eyebox on both of mine (especially my accupoint), but without the wandering zero that 3 of my 4 my personal leupolds had. Another good option that might be a bit out of your stated budget, but seems to be pretty consistently reliable, is a schmidt and bender. There are a few options in polar and other series in the 2.5-10 x 50 range, available with capped or dialing turrets. My 3-12 Klassik has been reliable despite some rough handling and a fixed klassik did well in the evals here on this site.

Idk. I’ve read where guys here complain about the NX8 1-8’s low light performance.

And since we’re doing the quote Form thing…

Lol..Some things they do get right.
Gotta love the AR15, AR10, and M1A platforms. I suspect the M1A may be a tad more reliable than other semi-auto 308's.
ACOGS, VCOGS, Accupoints, are damn good and reliable and can take a beating. Proven track record - that cannot be denied.
The M1A / Sage and variations has been a DMR plus 40 years - look it up. Along with specific Leupy MK scopes.
Btw, Leupy does a decent job with FFP LPVO's - they typically are the lightest.

O
I am curious why you would recommend a LPVO for low light shots on big game in AK and Africa?
I suggested LPVO / MVPO.
"Allow me to point out 400 yards. LPVO and MVPO if you want to jump up to a 2.5-10x and 22oz."

Let's review what he posted:
- Africa, Alaska, and Western
- inside 400 yards
- light weight
- Durable
- good low light (34mm main tube)
The downside to most LPVO/MVPO is lack of parallax at distance.
The upside of LPVO is 1x ( game changer imo)
Check out the higher end FFP LPVO's and MVPO's with good glass - they are quite good, fit a wide range, and low light has improved quite a bit
They are not cheap.
