I'd like to know what you do for maintenance on your batteries for items that don't get much use except when hunting. Such as an inReach, headlamps and battery packs. Do you just forget about them until just prior to the season or keep them charged throughout the year.

Thanks

Much of my stuff gets used for hiking so it stays more or less charged up year round. Stuff that gets put away for the season is stored in totes in a climate controlled area of the house.

I have learned from experience not to leave alkaline batteries in electronics the hard way due to leaks. I tend to carry this lesson to other forms of electronics and batteries, right or wrong, so I remove batteries for long term storage.

For my rechargeables, I tend to leave them off the charger in the off-season and then charge them up just prior to season for some things and prior to each use for others.

With all the electronic stuff anymore and most of it being rechargeable I set up a little charging station and every couple months when I think about it I plug stuff in and cycle through everything in a couple days. I pull all my electronics at the end of the hunt and just leave it on the shelf with the charger cords until its time to pack for hunting or I need it over the summer. I keep my drill battery's on the same shelf with there charger so I'm messing with them throughout the summer doing projects which reminds me I should charge other stuff.

I do the same and make sure to deplete / recharge once every 3-4 months. I’ve got older power tools that didn’t get run down through use enough and eventually the batteries were shot. They’d show charged then fail. Usually when you’re doing something you need to make sure is clean cut etc.
