I have a Black Diamond headlamp that is NOT the duel fuel, so I have to use 3 AAA batteries. Its a nice and light headlamp that still functions well. I'm interested in getting some rechargeable AAA's for it...I see there are some Lithium Ion rechargeable ones out there (Pale Blue and Coast X, and proabably others) but I've read mixed reviews on them. Otherwise, I was thinking of just getting some NiMH Eneloops and a charger off Amazon.

Thoughts?

I've had good luck with eneloops. I've also tried the Amazon basics. The only drawback I've had with those is they are slightly larger in diameter. Depending on the battery compartment it can be difficult to get it closed. I've never had this issue with the eneloops and they would be my recommendation.

If I decide to get some eneloops, any recommended chargers? Or just buy the pack that comes with battery and the Panasonic charger?

I still haven’t decided what I should do. I’ve read the NiMH rechargeables which are like 1.2V don’t really function great in a higher drain device like a headlamp, and the Lithium Ion AAA’s i guess have some kind of circuit to lower the voltage, which could mess with a device not really designed for lithium ion. I get pretty good headlamp performance with Engerizer Lithium AAAs but damn they are expensive at 12.50 for 4 of em.

Still unsure of what to do

I have good results with the black Eneloop batteries in my Black Diamond headlamps, think they were for higher drain devices but don't have as many charge cycles or something like that.

I've bought EBL in both AA and AAA for various things and always end up with a bad battery in the mix pretty quickly or one or two that won't hold a charge very long so became a PITA.

I also have an OLLLLLD set of Energizer brand AAA's and they still seem to keep working.

I use my 18650 chargers for the AAA's, think it's Nitecore brand, as well as the Energizer 4 bank that came with my first set of Energizer AAA's and it seems to work fine.

I’d just bite the bullet and get a new headlamp that is rechargeable. I did the rechargeable battery deal for a while. It’s expensive and they don’t last all that long. Rechargeable headlamps, assuming you have a power supply are a lot easier.

I guess they're just the Panasonic Eneloop Pro. Looks like I bought them summer of '22. I bought the EBL's in '23 and AA's in '24. The Energizers had to be somewhere in '18 or '19.
