Hey all,

I have a Remington 700 7mm sitting in the safe collecting dust. Wanting to turn it into something of the long range flavor. First off I don’t have a good smith around and I was hoping for recommendations of a rebarrel service. I have used Douglas in the past with decent results. I was wondering if proof research did rebarreling? I haven’t been able to find out. Still deciding on a caliber, but any insight or recommendations would be appreciated.

I do not personally have any experience with them but Long Rifles Inc. has pretty good reputation, fair price and quick turnarounds the last time I heard. There are probably companies out there that are better but with very long turnarounds. Like I said that’s not personal experience and things may have changed with them.

I use west Texas Ordance and they are great but I think there turnaround time maybbe

Plenty of good smiths out there, Spartan Rifles in San Jose, Rubicon Precision in Greenwood, or Shaen Rifles in Bishop all do top notch work in California. I’m in the minority who had a less than stellar experience with LRI.

I had to mail mine out of CA, cant find a good smith or at least one to return phone calls to save my life in this great state. Heard great things about Spartan Rifles in San Jose but he didnt return my calls. Gun Smiths are like mechanics, they are all dicks in their own way and are usually annoyed when you ask for their service, its comical. Then I found this awesome smith out of state through a friend and my gun will be re barreled within a week of arrival with a Proof Research. If I were you I would call Proof and ask them for dealers and gun smiths. Be aware that some calibers are back ordered until November especially .264 (6.5mm).

My full custom Rbros was spendy but with how many dumb questions Travis has answered for me idk how he even made any money at this point.
If it's a week day he returns calls and emails same day every time so far for me.

He is on a revolving order with proof. So he keeps alot in stock if you use him.

the best time to get work done is just after hunting season.

now competition smiths are extra busy and hunting smiths are beginning to feel the pinch.

Be ready for a long wait, my gs told me it’s crazy how busy he is, guess everyone sitting at home with time off started looking at what’s in their safe and decided they needed work done, his backlog currently is 6 months. My rebarrel was est to be 3 months, ended up 4.5 months.
