TAB gear makes some great field bags. The larger size is actually lighter than the smaller due to the fill material. I have used them shooting prone out to 1200yds. Has a nylon loop that is easy to run a clip through to hang on the outside of a pack for easy access.

Interesting, you guys have never had a 'makeshift' rear bag let the rifle drop just a little when you break the shot? Making the bullet impact high?

I have and it cost me a very big whitetail.

I have the Montana adjustable leather sling on all my rifles. From bipod prone I use the sling for rear support by grabbing the sling at the swivel attachment and making a fist with my fist contacting the ground. The stiff leather works great to support the rear of the rifle. If I need higher support in the rear I extend the sling all the way out and double up the leather so it extends beyond my fist with the sling contacting the ground. Also I have used this method with my pack under my fist. It works very well and that Montana sling is awesome.
