In recent weeks, I've been testing out the Trophy Taker A-TAC broadhead. They are certainly not a head for everyone, as they are extremely expensive. However, I am a broadhead junky and was interested in seeing how well these things perform.

I got the 125 gr Deep Six version. Upon inspection, they are extremely well built. I didn't wonder where all the money went, as they are pure quality--all stainless steel; the thinnest blade is .080" thick machined from a solid chunk of steel. The typically weaker ferrule of a Deep Six head is covered by a titanium collar to prevent any lateral damage.

I shot them into a target out to 60 yards and they proved to be the most forgiving head I've ever shot, even with a cross wind.

This past week, I got to test them on a 725# hog and a Catalina Goat. One shot, one kill in each case. I was extremely impressed with the penetration and devastation. The A-TAC cut thru the giant ribs of the hog and the shoulder of the goat. The leading blade was unscathed. The cross blade was nicked up a bit; it can either be resharpened or replaced.

Check out the pics of the damage.

Again, these heads are not for everyone, as they are extremely expensive, but for really big animals at long range, there is not a better head.

I will go on the record saying that the Exodus is the best head in the "normal" price range. I also shot one of those through the hog after it was already dead, and it penetrated very well. It did not hit a rib and did not penetrate as deeply, but it did come out looking brand new and still poked out the opposite side of the hog. Many of my buddies used the Exodus on this hog hunt and it performed extremely well.

Here are the pics of the broadhead after it cut through the hog. The only damage was to the blade that cut through the rib.
