Hey guys I'm looking at buying my dad a new pair of glass for Christmas. I'm just wondering how much better are the vortex razor over the talon models obviously there's a big price difference and normally I know you get what ya pay for but how much better are they really?

I haven't looked through the Talons, but they are on step below the Viper HD, then the Razors. I did have the Viper HD 10x50 and both 8x42 and 10x42 Razors. I preferred the 10x42 Razors over the 8x42. The 10's have a good field of view, better than most 10's. They are also very light for high level glass. At full retail I think the Razors are a little overpriced. There were a couple build items I didn't like as compared to other alphas I own or have owned ( Meostar, SLC Neu, SLC HD, EL, Trinovid). The eye cups didn't fit me well, very thin and didn't feel they would hold up as well long term. The Vortex badge was cheaply glued on to the top of e focus ring and came off. For me the SLC and Meopta performed better than the Razor.

It really depends on what is driving your decision, budget, or best glass, or balance of both. Look at many options and see what your eyes like. If you are hard on gear, the Vortex warranty may be worth it, but that is factored into the cost.

Shop around there are good deals to be found. I picked up a demo set of 8x32 EL Swarovision that were about the same as Razor retail price. Watch Cabelas as they often have their Meopta brand on sale 25% off.

Sport Optic has the Trinovid HD on sale for $850 and $900 (8's and 10's). Leica Binoculars | Leica Binocular Sale | SportOptics.com

Natchez Shooters Supply has some great Swarovski demo pricing. DEMO Swarovski SLC Binocular - 10x42mm Green - Swarovski Deals - HP | Natchez

The guys at Cameraland were advertising they will give Rokslide members best pricing and Elknut usually has good pricing on Vortex.

I picked up my dad a set of the last year Trinovids that were on closeout over the summer.

Thanks for the help that was allot of
Info. I am trying to find that happy medium between price and quality. He has a pair of 8x42 wind rivers now that are about 20 years old so really I'm sure anything will be a up grade. But I want to find him something he will be happy with for another 20 years

the talons are on camofire right now for $290
heres my situation...

want to buy my girlfriends dad new nockers, he has an old bushnell 10x42 that don't even line up anymore and hurt my brain when I looked through them...
he looked through my vulture 15x56 this year and cussed like a schoolgirl whos mom just took her phone away (all in the positive)

I don't even have a pair of razors for myself... camofire got $290 from me about 25 minutes ago!!!

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up getting him a pair of trinovids. I've been running the Geovids since they came out and love them so I feel real comfortable buying Leica for him.

Barrel seal failed and fogged up, right eye focus won't adjust correctly, rubber eye cups have fallen off etc they'll be going back when I get a chance to send them back to the factory. Until then ill be running the talons. Haven't missed the razors yet.

Ya, I think some of the Vortex stuff can be hit or miss. My razor 10x42s have been great, zero failures in a year of use. But I had to send my scope and spotter in for issues. I will say that when they come back from the mothership they are always in fantastic condition and in great working order.
