Looking into upgrading my binos for next year, and am wondering if the Vortex Razor UHD is worth the price difference over the regular Razor HD? I can save some coin for sure, but if the UHDs are worth it then I don’t mind going that route. Looking at the 12x50 in both.

I have a pretty sweet opportunity at getting a great deal on either one. I would save myself 600 dollars by getting the HDs. Is there that big of a difference in the UHD to justify spending that much extra?

They are better, but they are massive. Chances are you will need a new harness if you get them. If you want better than the HD (not hard to do) look at the Maven B series or Meopta Meostar. Both are about as close to alpha as you’ll get without paying for it.

Haven’t looked at the price of Meopta recently but the Maven I know are several hundred less than the UHD. My friend has the 12x50 and they are fantastic.

If I wasn’t running NL, those two are the direction I would be looking.

I've got a pair of 12x50 HD. Only taken out of box to look out kitchen window a few times. Never been out of the house. I found out I just can't hold them steady enough. Would sell for 900.00 shipped. I want to go back to a 10x50.

If the size difference doesn’t other you then yes the UHD is worth the coin. I stuck to the HD for carrying on my chest due to the size of the UHD.

Watch Sierra. Both pop up for significantly less than normal prices.

Agree with above statements. UHD are better but large. I personally think they approach alpha glass and have compared extensively.

For an extra few hundred I’d probably get used ELs though.

I have 10x42 UHD’s. They aren’t small. But their glass is the equal to my dad’s older Geovids and close to my SLC 15’s.

Go for the UHD. Although in my opinion 12x is no man's land for Binos. Too much for hand holding, and too little for a dedicated tripod bino. Get the 18's for tripod and 8x32 or 10x42 for your chest. I like the 8x32 paired with 18x56.
