Rayway tarps, anyone made one of these...

Found this website last nite. Ray jardine and his sew your own gear kits for tarps ,quilts etc. The tarp design is appealing to me, a basic flat tarp with beaked ends. Seems like Ray knows his way around tarp camping and this design is his final one after several redesigns over years. Wondering if anyone here on Rokslide has made and used one of these tarps and how they perform.

I know nothing of his tarps but he is legend in the climbing community :)

Maybe poke around the climbing forums? Maybe a general web search? Lots of hits on them.

Thanks for the reply BBob. I ordered his book with instructions on how to make the tarp. I am going to make one and probably use it with a light breathable bivy like the Borah gear one.

I have a buddy who talked his mom into sewing him one of these kits for him several decades ago.
Seems solid enough to me.

I was looking at rsbtr last nite and think I want to use silpoly for this one. Looking at the stuff with sil plus PU coating. IF anyone has a suggestion fire away.

The PU coating silpoly might be overkill honestly. I’ve made a number of tarps with the 1.1oz silpoly and it is very water proof on its own. The PU coated stuff has served me well as tent/bivy floor material. But is not as lightweight or packable for an overhead tarp setup.
