Mark Kayser posted on IG that his wife was bitten above her ankle by a rattler yesterday. She is recovering after a stay in the ICU and some antivenom treatments.

Had three snakebites last night. Two were confirmed Copperheads. One unknown owner insists was a timber even though he didn’t see the snake… blood work and dog’s mentation is NOT suggesting timber

Ran into another one Tuesday night while rucking. This was about 9 PM and he was stretched across the trail. Coiled up about the same time I realized what I was looking at. Scooped it off the trail with my trekking poles and was going to leave him, but it’s a popular trail with plenty of people, dogs, and kids. Ended up clubbing it with a big rock. My phone was stashed away in my pack, so I didn’t take the time to dig it out to document. Decent size, but smaller than the first one I ran into a few weeks ago.

Where do you practice that you see so many snake bites? I have a few vets in my family, don’t remember anyone dealing with this many bites.

How much of this is normal, responsible owners just suffering bad luck, vs things like yard-dogs and people yeeting their pets?

Killed a pretty good sized prairie rattler a couple weeks ago at a 3d archery shoot. Didn’t get a pic because my phone was in the truck but he was probably about 3.5 feet long. Nasty suckers.

It’s probably about 50/50 yard dogs to people with bad luck .

Even though yes it looks like I cut his head off. I was driving down a road I had just bush hogged and this joker was laying in it. All I ca. figure is as I ran over it it struck at the cutter and cut the head about perfect.
I will say when I picked it up it pissed all over my face a glasses. That was some rank stuff.
