If there is one thing ive learned in this thread, its that I will never be visiting Alabama for any reason.

One of the few places with all 4 big American venemous snakes. Water moccasin, copper head, rattle snake, coral snake. We also have subspecies of the rattlesnake like eastern diamondback, timber, and Pygmy. I’ve seen every one of these on my farm many many times except a Pygmy.

I’ve hunted all over South Africa and I’ve seen one snake.

My farm at home, I rarely go when I don’t see one.

I hate snakes but can deal with them. Growing up in the Texas panhandle we had our fair share but they generally weren't an issue. But I've spent a good bit of time in Australia and some years, some weather conditions, I've seen more spicy ones in a week than in my lifetime in the US. And since they're all protected species there, they repopulate at a good rate. Last time I was there one of my friends had just lost a 1600lb cow to a brown snake bite.
I have been told by numerous farmers that they get a bit big if you don't do anything about them so they'll trim 2" off each end and let them go........

I think they are really cool overall but I shoot two or three a year when they get too close to the house or the start stealing eggs from the chickens. This was the other day. 15 yards, gives me skin for finger tabs and a good dinner!

How do you guys in the south ever enjoy the outdoors? Rattlers are one thing but copperheads and cottonmouths don’t come with a warning system, I’d never be able to focus I’d be too busy worrying about getting bit by a snake

Spent 2hrs at the lease today in South Alabama and killed 2 cottonmouths. Just part of it. Snake boots and keen eyes.

Eyes tend to be keener, without snake boots...... just sayin'....
