Why not? Earthmate has landowner, photo's, topo, USGS quad's, digital Atlas, streets and the Hybrid which puts roads, topo lines and water over the top of a photo. What more does a guy need? If you can't navigate with all the map options in Earthmate then no mapping app is going to help.

I'm not sure whats all included with Earthmate now but since I was a paying member a few years ago before they stopped the pay for upgraded maps I still get GMU's, Survey maps and landowner names.

From what I have seen and I have messed with most of the mapping app's for my job Earthmate is just as good as any of them.
One reason I don't or won't use my Inreach for a GPS is I want the battery to last as long as possible so when a 911 is needed it's there. I can use my Garmin GPS and have spare AA lithium batteries in my pack

I have both onx and gaia right now comparing them. The best analogy is that onx is a blackberry and gaia is the iphone/android. Just way more dynamic with way more map layers at your fingertips.

Your not using your InReach for GPS your using your phone. Your phone is a stand alone GPS unit with an app and downloaded maps. The only things the InReach is doing is satellite communication and sending track points but if you don't want to track with the InReach then un-pair the phone from the InReach and just use your phones GPS to track, phone lays down a lot better track line then the InReach does anyway.

I have used the onX chip and no complaints. Other guy had the app. We used the chip in the vehicle GPS and I then used it in my GPS. Was way cool driving around on the big screen GPS seeing where we were relative to public/private property.

It is great to use the phone app cause you can do diff stuff but if you are having issues, get the chip and save the headache.

Never thought about using the chip in a vehicle while driving around. That’s a great idea, thanks

I’ve had one instance personally where onX was wrong and have heard of two others...all resulting in awkward confrontations. A paper backup in any area of question will be the way to go from now on.
