So I have a cabin in AZ unit 23 and I have used onXmaps for a while now. It would show me private property boundries using the PP layer. We'll I drew a long awaited bull tag and I have been scouting. All of the sudden the PP layer quit working so I have been emailing them about the issue. We go back and forth trying to fix the issue and the final email is their guy telling me that they have NEVER had certain private properties that I am talking about on onXmaps. This is total BS because I have used the PP layer to hike around certain ranches, so as to make sure I'm not trespassing. I would have NEVER gone as close to one ranch without it.

I ended up telling him that I would have had a lot more respect for him if he would have just said SORRY, IT IS BROKEN AND WE'LL NEVER GET IT FIXED AGAIN.

I saw a 340 inch bull very, very near a private ranch boundary, I guess I'll never really know.

They make paper maps with this info. Go to your assessors office and do it the old fashioned way.

Time to break out a old fashioned paper map and do some homework to learn exactly where those property boundaries are at just like what people did before onx.

Mine was yearly...works on same acct for phone and ipad...although no way to run a chip in a GPS

I had an issue with a layer once, emailed them, told them I was unhally... refunded my yearly purchase and told me to use it for the year for free as a way to say thabks for being loyal to their customers.

My particular version of OnX only works occasionally in offline mode....that's the whole reason I bought the damn thing. Most of the time it fails to load the map I saved, and it definitely doesn't load when I really need it.

GAIA does the same. You have to close the app, turn on airplane mode, then open. Otherwise, it will try and load with sh*t service and not work correctly. Even on saved maps

When onX is working on phone it is great, but I don’t let technology make or break my hunt, it’s to fickle and even the phone itself is pretty fragile. I have offline app on phone, chipped GPS and usually a general paper map. Been burned to many times, one area where redundancies are well worth it.

Phone goes to airplane mode, then you open the phone app.

I've seen others talking about the disappearing layer problem for a week or so now. Are you using an Iphone or android?

I'm using a Galaxy 9 (android) The Private Property layer is not working on my phone or desktop.

What really pissed me off was the fact he kept telling me that I had never used it in unit 23, when I absolutely used it a lot. I forgot to say also yesterday that when I did open it once, private property line flashed around one of the ranches that I had hiked around before using onX. If it was never there, why did it flash for a second? I wasn't just seeing thing either, it definitely flashed.

Love OnX on a chip, hate it in my phone.

Really liking BaseMap except the multiple offline maps deal.

Just started looking a Gaia.

Had this same issue. Would never load my waypoints when needed either

I have had the disappearing private layer occur quite a bit and its ruined a few hunts and other trips because I was tight up against private and had to turn back because I didn't feel comfortable proceeding. Infuriating.

What I have found is that OnX works fine most of the time, BUT if there is an available update and I don't download/apply the update it seems to lose the private layer on my saved maps almost every time. I don't usually check for updates on my apps (because I don't trust them initially) but I have finally learned to always, always, always update OnX before I go out. Once I'm out, I NEVER take my phone off airplane mode unless I know I have the service/time to download an update if they thoughtfully drop one in the middle of the season.

My best guess is something within the app that identifies you have an out-of-date version causes an error where layers (or atleast the private layer) on downloaded maps get removed/unusable. Its not a science yet, but I've experienced the layer issue a lot and it has never occurred when I have downloaded the latest update.

This is on an iPhone.

Android and onX don't play well together from what I have experienced and seen. OnX doesn't like to write to droid internal memory for some reason whereas it has no problem with Iphone memory. OnX chokes on the partners data, crapping out trying to load it, on a new S10+, but ran perfectly fine on his old iphone 6; 128gb internal in each.
You may be on to something GH, I always update as soon as they come out.

I’ve got an iPhone 8 Plus and I use OnX a ton. I have never had any of the issues that I hear about on these forums. It has always worked for me with no issues. I’m guessing perhaps it is something between droid and their app?

Most recently I got turned around on where private was and really needed my maps. Tried closing and opening app 10 times. Tried restarting phone. Tried airplane mode toggle 50 times. Tried every method to disable mobile data.

Every bear elk and deer in a mile radius heard me swearing like a sailor at my OnX that day.

I'm half tempted to get into paper maps and a compass. If I want to be pissed off at my devices I can do that at home.
