What do you feel is the effective range of a 243 for deer hunting?

This ..........if you get the appropriate twist/freebore, it'll run high bc for cal expanding match bullets over 3000fps. That equates to the lower threshold for expansion velocity between 800-1000y depending on atmosphere.

Standard twist barrel 500 yards. The bullets that stabilize just don't have the BC. Fast twist with the right bullet and you can get to 700 or so and stay above 2000fps.

A better question is what is the required impact velocity of the bullet you're using and what is the BC of that bullet, how accurate is that combo and what are the conditional limits for the above.

Headstamps are not part of the equation.
