Just curious what everyone is using for their archery range finder? Looking for suggestions. Not looking to break the bank but want something that is reliable. I already have swaro el range binos, so a high end range finder is not nessesary. I just need something compact and handy for bowhunting.

Had a gentleman tell me about the new SIG rangefinder. The numbers he was quoting were quite impressive. 1500 + for around $700. Anyone have any experience?

I have the Sig Kilo 2000 and have been very impressed with it so far. It will definitely range to 1500 and beyond, and it's incredibly fast. I picked mine up for around $400 from Savinglots.com. It's a great unit for the price but may be more than the OP wants/needs.

Sig is around $450 and is the best on the market for under $1000 imo. It is awesome, I have been very happy with it

I've used my Leica CRF 900 for the past 9 years, but picked up the Sig for $400 for longer range stuff. I like it so much that I'm going to use it for archery this year. It has angle comp and works even under 10 yards. Not that you need that, but it's a pretty impressive unit. I ranged a building at 2578 yards the other day.

Is the Sig display red? If so is it a dark red or lighter red? I'm asking because I'm red/green color blind and the lighter colored red display on the Leupold I had would wash out against sage brush and other green backgrounds on really bright days.

It is red, but the brightness is adjustable. I also like that it has a battery indicator. On the Leica I would just change the battery out every season because I never wanted to take a chance of it crapping out in the middle of a hunt.

As mentioned above the display is red. I don't know how we could know to what degree dark or light would show up to your eyes. My suggestion would be to check it out in store. I know both Cabela's and Sportsman's Warehouse now carry the Sig so it should be something you could get your hands on before purchase. Either that or see if a member here has one and lives nearby.

haha, I don't think I need another long range RF. just something compact and easy to draw and use for bow hunting. My swaros are for the rifle and long stuff but too cumbersome to use with a bow.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Just because there have been recs for long range RFs doesn't mean they won't also work well for archery hunting.

The Sig (and others above) are all going to be around the same size/weight, so I also don't know what you mean by "compact and easy to draw".

Perhaps I'm missing something?

I'm thinking a cheaper rangefinder would do the job since I don't need to to range further than 200 yards. Unless I am missing something. Already spent $2500 on the swaros. Like $300 and under, unless those are junk. thats why I'm asking.

Ah ok, gotcha.

Prior to the Sig I have now, I had a $200 Bushnell RF that worked fine for archery (included angle comp). The only negative was no illumination, but that was a few years ago. I would definitely think you can find something to fit your needs for less than $300.

Ive never used a range finder and have only arrowed game at under 40 yards to date so I havnt needed one really. I have been researching them alot and may also buy one seeing that they are a handy multi use device. The vortex Ranger seems to get alot of positive reviews for around $300. Ive never used it or any rangefinder but it may be what I end up purchasing.

Triple check the reviews on the ranger slow slow but may still fulfill someone's needs
