Rain Gear in the backcountry

For me it depends on how I'm hunting, how far in, over- night or not, time of season, and forecast.

When weight's an issue, I tend to pack both top/bottom UL raingear w/ base & mid layers. Shed or add as needed.

When day hunting late season wet/cold conditions, I tend to roll with more durable hydro fleece pant/jacket set and shed mid layers to regulate heat.

Its a must have in Western WA. I bought a set of dewpoint Sitka off of Camofire for nearly 50% off light and takes up no space really so I always have it when hunting. Scouting I just tough it out.

I normally bring both but am going with just a jacket and gaiters for an early season Idaho high country hunt. Pants will be in the truck.

Hunt of the Day Mountain Archery had a great deal on First Lite Boundary Stormtight Pant Max1 yesterday.

All this talk on rain gear made me spring for a pair! It's also been raining cats and dogs where I live by chance this week in Iowa.
