Is there a real advantage to a certain type?

Seems like nylon and polyester are the main two. I see both used on highend and lowend. The poly in general is quieter and less shiny. I believe nylon to be stronger, am I wrong? Also one advantage to poly is I understand it to be easier to print a camo pattern on to.

As I'm shopping I don't care about the color or pattern or noise, just wondering if one material has a real performance (mainly abrasion resistance) advantage. I know there are other important factors too, that's for another discussion.

Interesting question, I'd like to know as well. I recently ordered an arcteryx alpha FL because of reviews that the face fabric makes for a tough bombproof jacket if at the cost of being a noisy option. My FL boundary stormtight wets out relatively quickly and is twice the weight but I do prefer the pockets and pit zips.

I can't give you very good answers about the Polyester vs Nylon but I can say from extensive subject matter experience that the construction of the Arcterys using Gore-Tex Pro three layer construction in your Alpha FL is the most durable material to weight ratio I have used. I run the slightly heavier LEAF Beta SL with the Gore-Tex Pro three layer construction and N40r Gortex and Paclite material year round under heavy use and it shows no sign of wear. I chose the Beta SL over the Alpha for the two pocket front and pit zips. . . You'll love the Alpha!

Good to hear akicita. I definitely wanted pockets and pit zips in a LEAF configuration but damn steep and cheap had the alpha FL for $259.

Depending on your size and color preference campsaver as the alpha SL for 209, plus 20% of any outlet item.

It's lighter then the leaf or the FL, but I'm not sure what your intended use is.

Edit: just saw you wanted bomb proof fabric, any of Arc's gore pro 3 layer shells will serve you well.
