Rail for Tikka?

I am looking to mount a Leopold V5X on a Tikka Wideland in .308. Does anyone use a Picatinny rail for a Tikka even though it has some kind of integral rail? Would you recommend a 20 moa rail?

Also, what set up would you suggest for rail and mounts? I was thinking of a Warne Mountain Tech rail and mounts.

Skip the rail and rings and go with the Hawkins Hybrids. They are awesome rings. Myself, my brother and a few buddies have all used them with zero issues.

I put a 20MOA rail on my son’s 308 super lite. Works well - don’t really need 20 MOA but it doesn’t hurt.

I doubt you'll find any benefit from the 20 MOA rail unless planning to shoot super long. The Leupold would be at home in a set of Warne rings built for the Tikka rail with the integral recoil stud.

I use the Anarchy Outdoor Rail on my Tikka because I swap scopes regularly.

It has a great rail on it already.

For hunting, I strongly recommend things simple, light and strong by using rings that fit directly on the dovetail, like the ones Sportsmatch makes.

Is there an advantage to using a rail. With tax high-quality scope, it doesn’t seem sensible to lose half your scores dynamic range with a zero cant system. Now, I thinks Hawkins mounts are close but I think 25 moa is too much. Anyone agree?

Depends what you’re using it for.

For long-range target shooting, why not?

For hunting ranges, I wouldn’t complicate things by bolting on extra crap to the receiver. A quality direct dovetail mount keeps things low-profile, lightweight, strong and reliable.

Check out the Area 419 rail for Tikkas. It is probably the most low profile rail i've seen, doesn't overhang the front of the action, and utilizes the recoil lugs in the top of the action.

I like using a rail on tikkas. I prefer the factory dovetail but if not, I'll throw a rail on over direct thread any day. It make mounting and removal of scopes easier and gives you more options.

20moa rails are nice if you're target shooting out a mile plus on the flatter shooting calibers. Closer on the slow or light calibers

I typically like a pic rail on rifles but my tikkas wear sportsmatch rings directly to the rail using the recoil pin. Cheap, light, and reliable.

No need for extra cant with your setup but 20 MOA wouldn't hurt either.

For sure.

I spent way too much time looking at scope mounting options for my T3X, and concluded that you really can’t beat Sportsmatch for field use.

No regrets on the decision; I’ve been really happy with mine.

Only reason i've had to look elsewhere is with certain scopes that have short mounting surface on the front tube and couldn't be mounted back far enough with the front ring using the recoil pin. I just swapped scopes rather than put a rail on it but a rail might be a better option for some.

I find that the clamping is so secure that there’s no need for the recoil stop. You could also easily drill a new hole on the underside of the ring for the pin to engage if you wanted the extra assurance.

Mountain Tactical Rail, has integrated recoil pin in it as well. Have them on both my Tikkas. There are different variations of this one, but I deiced to get the receiver length because I went with a 56mm Schmidt Bender for my Low light setup and the extension would have hit my scope.

I initially had a direct Spuhr 20moa mount. Caused FTEs on my left handed Tikka so switched to Area 419 20moa rail with ARC rings. I'm pretty happy. I would've preferred the Spuhr mount just because it's simpler as far as just mounting it up on the rifle goes; but ARC rings are pretty easy to setup and are pretty beefy.

Old thread that I am resurrecting because I can't seem to find my answer.

I specifically want a low Pic rail to mount a scope on a tikka t3x. In this case I want to be able to easily switch scopes between this rifle and another rifle that is not a tikka, so the pic rail is mandatory--I know about the sportsmatch and other options, but those will not work in this case.

I have a factory CTR steel rail on another rifle, and I have also used a mountain tactical pic rail. I have been happy with both. The scope in question only has 7mils elevation travel, so I cannot use my existing canted MT rail--I need a 0moa or maybe a 5moa rail (if such a thing exists). This rail wants to be as low as possible--the factory CTR rail is perfect height, although I would prefer an aluminum rail for weight. MT has been fine although the 10 or 20moa one I have is noticeably higher than the steel rail I have, even up front, and I found the tiny torx heads they use in their mounting screws to be very finicky and eat bits.
Is a mountain tactical 0moa the best option out there, or are there better rails I should look at that also use the hole in the receiver top for stability? I thought I recalled someone saying that some other rail was better than MT, but I can't remember what it was or find where I saw that.

Someone will probably pipe up with a comment about the grade of the aluminum used in MT rails versus other companies. I recall reading something about that.

I'll just mention it because I haven't seen it brought up yet, I use rails on my Tikkas because I can't get scopes mounted far enough back when just using rings mounted to the receiver. The front ring starts running into the objective bell, especially on scopes with shorter tubes. I've got 2 of the MT rails and I've cut the front couple bars off both of them so that the rail doesn't interfere with the objective bell.

I have two T3s mounted directly to the Tikka dovetail (Deadnutz and Talley) and on my son's T3X, we mounted a rail to give more range as far as ring spacing. Seems some scopes have less mounting area on the tube and really restrict you regarding eye relief.
The rail is an extra complication but it did give us mounting spacing that was needed.
I believe is was Warne or Mountain Tactical FWIW.
