After purchasing a 280 REM from a fellow rokslide member, and mounting a scope on it, I have found that the bolt handle will not fully clear the scope. The rifle already had High Leupold cantilever rings. Looks like the best option is to now install a rail, and get some rings.

From the research I have done (internet) it looks like these Santa Barabara Mausers are the 98 large ring variety.

Does anyone know if the night force rails will work on this action? Sorry if this is a lame question, I am pretty green when it comes to knowing what goes with what, etc....

On the bright side, the gun is in great condition, and we are having the stock cut down to fit my wife, and installing a new decelerator pad. The barrel is a 1 in 9 twist, which is what we were hoping for.

But I need to figure out a rail and rings.... any help is appreciated!

****, stupid question. Went to night force website and it has 98 mauser listed.....

Well, 20 MOA is a little much. I am lookingfor a quality 10 MOA rail, if anyone has any suggestions I am all ears

Mounting your scope higher isn't going to help your wife shoot it well. If she has to have her head off the stock to see through the scope, the recoil may not be pleasant. What kind of scope are you trying to mount? Typically, Leupold scopes have less bulk around the eye and you might get bolt clearance compared to some other brands. I would look at other options prior to raising the scope that high.

Need to get the scope a little higher to clear the bolt handle.

And she shoots it pretty good

I have a 0 moa EGW rail with NF rings on my large ring 98 mauser and have no complaints. mausers rails can be finicky with how the holes align.

the first rail i bought was a drilled one and the holes did not align with my rifle. Sent it back and got an undrilled one and took it to a smith to drill correctly.

Thanks Axel. Seems like a great product, but right now it is out of my price range.

I will keep them in mind when I rebuild my FN mauser 7mm REM
