Anybody here using one of the Ruger Compact Magnums?

Looks like the answer is no. My opinion is the 300 never had a chance to many other 300's that do the same thing, the 338 to me is interesting 20'' barrel, 308 action, win mag performance but they both suffer from the same thing ruger only has them in the guide gun anymore (I think). Only hornady loads ammo, I think they were trying keep the momentum from the 375ruger going but it looks like it was a flop, they should have just necked down the 375ruger to 338 and 300 instead then they would have had a full line 416,375,338,300 that line up would have been cool.

I run one often. But I am running it for the whole package. There are not many left handed rifles in general, let alone a short action with a magnum bolt face and trim overall length. Really like the 338 RCM cartridge, but it's breathing it's final breath right now. I just grabbed another 100pc of brass.

Sweet! I was wrestling with the whole RCM quandary. Short pipe,good open sights,short action,American made,cool caliber (338 RCM). Then I started searching for brass. Even semi-affordable loaded fodder. Kinda burst my balloon. There really isn't anything wrong with them. Just bad timing I guess. I ordered a Hawkeye in 280.Expecting it here Fri. I still want a Ruger with the factory open sights on it. A more conventional caliber will have to do.

I think there were a rare run of the above rifle in 308. Would be a handy woods bummin' gun if you still have the itch. Hornady just did another run of brass last month for the RCMs also. But I can't honestly say that it's a smart decision. It's Dead. I will have to look at chamber specs down the road and see if a 338 WSM would clean everything up and run in the rifle. That rifle in 308 would be sweet. I could see myself toting one.
