Need to pick your guys’s brains. Went out this weekend with the son chasing mule deer. It’s dry and loud out. I wear the little toe shoes/ or bare foot running shoes for being quiet. Grip rocks good. Not as quiet as heavy wool sock but a fairly good compromise in my eyes. Not very manly footwear tho lol. My son has his boots on and is pretty dang loud. Hates my footwear. Any suggestions for him?

No suggestions, I got tried of picking microscopic splinters from my feet and socks... now I switch into a pair of vibram 5 fingers with a grippy sole. They arent as quite as socks no, but more then quite enough considering I am no longer cursing every sharp rock I would step on with my socks.

Lone Peak Leather Co Stalkasins. Great foot protection (they're double layer on bottom) and very quiet. They're a bit pricy and have a lead time of about a month, but they're my favorite solution by far.

Double sole moccasins or ones with a crepe rubber sole. They can be slick on grass though.
The Lone Peaks look nice , even some Minnetonka's would work.

I had a pair of Clark’s desert boots with the crepe sole from college that were pretty quiet for boots. Little support or water resistance though

for the cheap option, take a pair of heavy wool socks and slip and old insole inside of them from an old pair of tennis shoes. Provides a little more protection w/o sacrificing the quietness of the sock. I've also been toying around with the idea of spray some Flexseal on the bottom of the sock to provide a little grip and protection while keeping the sock flexible...Poor mans Stalkasins.

I used an old pair of wrestling shoes where we had thorns, stickers. Thinner sole, flexible, still decent protection.

Mocassins are not going to be all that quiet on dry grass and loose rock. Ive been playing with wrestling shoes a lot and they are much better overall imo.

This is a very interesting topic. I was really intrigued by the flex seal on socks idea

Sockwas, amazingly light and fold up in pants pocket. Tough sole with easy on and off make them great for stalking.
